poorbiker
I have the 6x8 clam fish house. What would be a good heater to heat the shack. I would like something that would keep it nice and warm when its real cold because my 10 year old will be comming with. Thanks and great HSOforum
bigmouth
The Mr. Heater\cooker is a great and small heeater. It has a low\med\hi setting. Sits right on the floor so your feet stay warmer. And you can flip it over and cook food on it.
Yellow Belly
I just returned a Coleman Black Cat because it wouldn't heat a 6X8 shed for me. I could still see my breath after a half hour of it running. I think I'm gonna get a Mr Heater Buddy (or maybe just some breath mints) instead.I've seen a lot of positive info about them. poorbiker
I was looking at the Mr. Buddy also but didnt think it would be big enough. Can you run the cooker from a 20lb tank?
fiskyknut
You'll need a hose.
Scoot
On the really cold and windy days, I don't think a Buddy would cut it. Most of the time it would, but not always.Scoot

Dobber
My sister gave me a Mr. Heater for my birthday but it says not to use it in enclosed areas because of the fumes so I was thinking of exchanging the Mr. Heater for the Mr. Buddy. The Mr. Buddy claims you can use it indoors.
MG - Fishin'
I actually have both the Mr. Heater that hooks right on top of a 20# tank and the Mr. Buddy heater. I have a 6x8 portable and a 2 man clam ice house. The Mr. Buddy will do the trick in the 6x8 if it's not too terribly cold. I have no problem with the Mr. Buddy in the 2 man clam. But if it's going to be a cold one, and I'm going to be in the 6x8, I just bring the Mr. Heater with the 20#'er and keep it on low just to be safe. I have both heaters so I don't have to lug around the big tank on days where I really don't need it, just grab the Mr. Buddy and go. If I were to buy one, I'd get the Mr. Heater and just run a hose from outside the house if you don't have that much room and you'll be plenty warm. Then you can get a couple different size tanks to fit your needs depending on how long you'll be out fishing for.MG
MG - Fishin'
I also believe that the Mr. Buddy has a sensor in it to automatically shut off if it's running at an unsafe level. It is supposed to be ok for indoor use however. I've never had a problem with mine.
Dobber
MG-Hey, thanks for the info! Very helpful. It looks like I'll be just fine with Mr. Heater.Dobber
Animal
Just an added note: Make sure you get an extra thermal coupler. They can go bad without warning and are very fragile and easily break. If the coupler is damaged or fails you will not be able to strat the heater unless you tape down the plunger to allow gas to flow. Doing this is a very dangerous thing to do.
