Oil mixture for new jiffy!

For years the Tecumseh engine models TC200, TC300, AV640 and the AV840 engines used on ice augers were rated at 24:1 fuel, oil ratio.

Then Tecumseh wanted the engine to be ran on a 24:1 fuel, oil mixture for the first gallon.

The new engines can be ran on the new Jiffy oil. I do not know if this is a true synthetic, but is more of a pure blend of lubricants, like the Optimal brand oil. If Jiffy did not want you to use the new oil, they would not have had it labled with their name.

Tecumseh has approved 40:1 for all of their 2hp and 3hp engines.

Since this was a in-line change from Tecumseh you will see some units with the 24:1 ratio on the engine.

Since Jiffy was aware of this change they went ahead and changed their oil bottles to reflect the 40:1 ratio.

40:1 is the ratio you want to use.

I have been using the optimal for years and only mixing it at the suggested 100:1 in my jiffy 3hp. It starts better and runs smoother in this cold weather. It also has way less smoke which is nicer in the ice shack. I'm not suggesting you try that with the other oils but I'm just letting you know that my jiffy likes the optimal at their suggested ratio.

You can order direct with my links. AMSOIL Saber Professional (I am a sponsor with ads in the equipment/expert forum.)

For a new engine I recommend using the first couple of tanks of fuel at double rich ratio - use it at 50:1. Then you can change to the leaner mixtures, many use 80:1 or the recommended leanest 100-1.

I started running 40:1 this winter, third season with my JIFFY 3 horse, what a difference it made in starting. It runs so much better than in the two years past and a hole lot less smoke and seems to have alot more power. I know the first year was a sorta brake-in period but now usually in 1 or 2 pulls its running. Good luck with the Jiffy!
