Twins pick up Livan Hernandez

The Twins signed a veteran, but I dont think he will help!

He's an innings eater, having more innings under his belt in the past 3 seasons than any other pitcher in baseball.

I'm curious as to what the Twins strategy is this season. With all their young pitchers you'd think they want to get them some innings, but then they bring in the biggest inning eater in the game. Seems a contradiction of what I think they should do.

Are they making a run for this season?

They needed a veteran in the pitching staff and they got a decent one. He will teach the young kids a couple pointers here and there. Nothing beats experience. When the young guys start to get beaten around a little bit Livan will be there to give 7 or 8 innings when you need it. He will also give your bullpen a rest when need be. Good pick up by the Twins.

Agreed Biff, don't expect to see many games where our starting pitching makes it to the 7 or 8 inning like Santana and Silva were doing last year. Livan will add a vertern presence and will give the pen a rest. Also don't expect Liriano to make the rotation until May or June or even later...the twins will work him in slowly. I've also heard the rumor that that A's are shopping around starting pitcher Joe Blanton and the Twins were one of 2 teams very interested, so if this GM pulls that trade that would be interesting...But I don't like the idea of us dealing with the A's GM Billy Bean cuz he knows how to rape a teams farm system look at the Haren trade he pulled off ealier with the Diamondbacks.

Blanton in the Twins rotation....I would take that. The Twins know how to make a good deal too for prospects, just ask the Giants. It would be interesting to see what the Twins would have to give up. I am sure some young pitching and a hitting prospect of some sort.

Blanton has had solid seasons but fades a bit in Sept.

I personally think Livan is a better Carlos Silva. He'll eat up innings, and I think he has better stuff.

Agreed, plus he's half the price of what Seattle signed Silva for.

i think that we are sitting ok. I know that we lost our best pitcher, but i think they twins are going to try and get others that are out there, and put a team together to play out there night in and out.

Its going to hurt with what we lost, but im a huge braves fan, and from what they lost last year, there sitting better then ever now.

He is better than Silva., IMO. Also, don't confuse him with Sid Ponson or Sid Hartman.

He is a decent number 3-4 starter.

A pretty good more for the cheap Twins.

The reason the twinkies signed him is because they looked at thier payroll at 50 million and said we better spend a little more money so the fans won't get more ticked off than we are now. They are a franchise that just want's to be good enough to keep us talking about them. To help with our younger pitchers is bullcrap. This guy is on a 1 yr deal so he can be either traded at the deadline or a 3 yr gig next year for more money. Lets say he wins 12 games, 1 or 2 more than these rookies we have would win. A PR move and thats it. Add him with a bat and Santana, then it's news.
