I just purchased a Zercom flasher on hsolist, does anyone have any info on them? It looks older but the guy who sold it says it worked great. It has a case just like a vexilar, only problem is the display is in black. has anyone used one of these flashers before? can you see your bait on them? thanks

Years ago I had a clearwater classic flasher on my boat. As you said it's black, but it marked stronger signals as dark black and weaker signals as light black to even a light shade of gray. It should work fine to mark fish and your bait for you, but the key to getting good performance out of it is the transducer, a weak transducer will not mark much for you. Good luck.

I still have mine but the ducer went bad so i bought a new Showdown. the clearwater classic is really a great unit. make sure that the ducer is level in the water and if it is still strong it will work great. No problem seeing bait and fish with mine when it was strong even in 40 fow. Very simple to use, quite accurate and easy to tell the difference between fish and bait.

Does have a sort of grey scale so bigger darker marks mean bigger fish. you can even read weeds when they are working well.

I used that kind of unit for almost 20 years in winter and open water. It was great and simple. It operates on a gray scale, which means the darker/blacker the bottom, the more likely it is to be rock/gravel. While it didn't have the zoom/2-inch separation, it did have 6-inch separation and with 1000 watts of power, interference was rare. I fished up to 60 feet deep and never had problems...and it marked fish throughout the water column.

The only reason I upgraded this season was because I upgraded my boat. My upgrade didn't need it and I could sell my old unit for a little more with Zercom summer/winter included.

Your only problem might by the backlighting. Half my mine burned out and there are no replacements made. Easy to fix by simply using a small clip-on flash light or a headlamp.

I use a clearwater classic as I'm very color blind and just can't read the color ones well. Even the upgrade to color bands that are supposed to be color blind friendly are of no use to me.

Without modifications, the transducer on the classic is not self leveling. It can be a bit of a pain getting it adjusted. Other than that, I love it. Battery life is amazing and no noise.
