Thoughts on Gopher Signing Day

It is nice to see the Goph's are at least 3rd in the Big Ten behind Ohio State and Michigan in recruiting class rankings(although a few sites have them 4th behind Illinois as well), but I must say I am dissappointed in us not landing Brewster's own son! Don't get me wrong, he shouldn't have to go and play for his dad, but if Tim Brewster can't convince his son to play for his so called "Gopher Nation" I would have a hard time seeing him sell me or my son on the idea. What do you guys think about the incoming class????

Looks like a good recruiting class. The son's decision could be based on PT. Also avoids people saying his dad did the work for him. If his son played and didn't play well but stayed in there would be a lot of questions if Coach just wants his son on the field. College recruiters are salesman, salesman stretch the truth and say what you want to hear, but parents are supposed to be honest and tell the real deal. Coach probably said, "This is what we have here in "Gopher Nation" grin.gif, but you need to make your own decision on where to go." Plus isn't college about getting away from your parents?

I really like the recruiting class as well, especially considering where this program has been the last year or two. The Metrodome didn't bring these recruits to the U of M. Neither did the cold weather, especially all the kids from Texas and down south. It was the "salesmen" that sold this program. So Brewster and his assistant coaches deserve some major credit. This recruiting class is a great start for Brewster. It will be an on-going process that won't happen overnight, but today definitely is a step in the right direction.

It will be interesting to see how the Brewster crew is able to coach and retain these recruits now. Good recruits won't lead to championships if everyone leaves after their sophomore year....like gopher hockey and basketball.

I wanna believe that he is a good coach and a good salesman, but he still has to prove it. Mason would have had a better record last year, but I understand sometimes you have to take 2 steps back in order to go one step forward. Time will tell.

As far as Brewster's kid and he went to Texas for PT.... I hope you mean Primetime, not playing time. If you say he went to Texas for playing time..... I think he would have gotten plenty of that here!

Agree 100%!

Also, Brewsters kid would be an instant starter here at the U. He is a top notch stong safety/linebacker type. He is another 4-star recruit, I am disappointed we didn't get him.

Not sure where you heard that, but all 30 who are now signed are expected to be full qualifers. Only JUCO Traye Simmons has to take a single online course and will be able to join the team this fall.

I'll agree he did a nice job recruiting some solid players, but he has yet to prove that he can "win" when they start keeping score. I hope he takes us to the Rose Bowl and gives us a reason to start saying "Gopher Nation." I just won't annoint him quite yet. He has a good track record as far as recruiting, just waiting to see it in the "coaching" aspect.

I also heard somewhere that there are a few recruits that need to pass some summer classes to become eligible, but I can't remember where.

Brewster just doesn't stop!! The gophers recieved the verbal commitment from Moses Alipate for the 2009 class. He is looking to be the top player out of MN next year and in the top 100 in the nation. I know there is still a year for him to change his mind, but just one more thing to get gopher fans excited.
