St. Croix Avid Series Ice Rods

I was wondering if anyone could tell me why they stopped making these rods. I have a couple and they are the best rods that i have ever used. Oh yeah if anyone has some and they don't like them you can send them my way.

I agree, I love the avid ice rods. DeadHead and myself just discussed this topic in the trout forum. There is no comparison between the premier and the old avids.

I love my Avid also. I think they probably stop making them do to the fact that many people complained about the crooked rod guides. I spoke with a St Croix rep and he said I was not the only one that complained about the guides there was a fury of complaints. I still have my avid and it is my favorite and most sensitive rod.

I have some older ones and some older premiers that I really like for the bucks. I had a custom rod made with a Croix Avid blank and its a very versatile blank. Softer tip for perch but enough backbone to tackle inland lakers.

I wondered this last year... Stop in the little baitshops and you can still find a few.

I dont think they stopped making them because of crooked guides. They still make the premiere and you really have to look through a bunch to find a good one of those. I havnt really noticed that problem when looking through any avid rods.

I agree with Northlander and Turnup. I've built a few ice rods using the St. Croix blanks. These rods aren't too bad when you take a little more time to make sure the guides are done right.

I wish we could petition St Croix to bring back the Avids!!
