VEX question

I have both options on my new FL-18 but I typically leave it on the 9 degree. In my rig, my second hole is fairly close to the one I jig out of and If I have the trans. on the 19 degree setting I will tend to pick up my other jig. If you have a Vexilar manual they go into some pretty good detail about the differences in the two settings and at what times each of them have thier benifits.

i have an fl18 with the 9 19 use the 19 for under 20 feet and 9 for 20 and over if you use the 19 in say 20 feet you'll pick up every thing this is how it goes 9 is a narrow cone the deeper you are the farther out it reaches think of a upside down ice cream cone the further you go down the bigger the area it covers

I use the 19 degree in shallow water and the 9 degree in deeper water. Another thing that I have neticed is that I will sometimes get some interference with the 19 in deeper water. When this happens I switch to the 9 and it goes away. I normally use the narrow beam in my portable due to the closeness of the holes.

The 9 degree is also nice on steep drop offs other than the 19 in the same spot. In the 19 your jig will appear as though it is on the bottom and it really isnt because it is reading the shallowest pt. You could also miss fish that are there tight to the bottom. The 9 degree will help minimize that from happening. Good luck

there is no unit that is better than the other in that case. the trick is to minimize the degree for that particular use.

I always use the 9, or narrow beam on my fl8. Sometimes I flip it over to the wide beam, but I never like how it looks or what it picks up, so I switch it back. I seem to pick up my lure and the fish better with the narrow beam.

I have a fl-20 with the dual beam, and switch between the 9 and 19 depending on conditions and they both work great for me. I use the 19 a lot and have never had any issues with it.

Could the interference be from neighboring units? If you continue to have issues I would have Vexilar look at it.

Along with the other reasons mentioned for the dual beam, I often use the 9 degree on low power for fishing in weeds and it works excellent.

is it an older vexlar? Check the bottom of the Transducer see if it is scratched or marred. Or if there is something coating it, Ice, Minnow guts, ETC.

Is tere a break in thelead going to the transducer? If not maybe write or call vexilar and see if they can stir you in a better Direction.
