I was sitting in traffic yesterday on a freeway bridge deck and happened to look down at the side of the road. There is trash and ciggarette butts all along our road ways. People have no respect for anything anymore and must feel that it is "everyone elses responsibility" rather than their own to clean up. This attitude goes for alot more topics but dont want to get into it here.

Bottom line is the careless / litterbugs outnumber the caring / respectfull people and we might all have to work a little harder to keep things neat and clean. the other option is to call TIP or DNR if you see people with trash on the lake when you are fishing...to make sure they clean it up. that way DNR will have their license number to go after them if they choose not to clean up before they leave.

Sparky, I used to live in the country, then the city and again the country. There are slobs everywhere. I keep my land clean and pick up other peoples trash all the time in our ditches. It amazes me how these people that live in the country profess to have such a love and close connection to the land yet don't think twice about dumping their beer cans, pop bottles, cigarette packs or anything else right out the car window. Or dumping the old stove, fridge, window casings, etc. down in the creek bottom.

Slobs are slobs.I wonder if the majority of the folks that litter(city, country or anywhere)keep their own place like that.Once I,d like to follow those sob's and dump a can of rotten veggies or a burning cig butt in their area.(I'm not advocating hurting or burning anyone)c63I vented ...now I don't really feel any better. We (my Wife and two children)live near the Luce Line trail and go out and pick up every year. The trash slobs are everywhere!!!!!bye for now.cyac63

Everyone is entitled to have an opinion, and keep an opinion to themselves. You need to read the forum policy, again. Some have already stated your biased opinion is offensive. You are out of line, especially when you don't know me ,or anyone else here, on a personal basis.I don't live in the metro proper, but I live close enough to, and work there, to know that there are good, and true sportsman there.Pull the head, man. Being frustrated with the 'pigs' in our society is understandable, but blanket, unfounded statements are just plain stupid. The moderators here can 'check' me on this post, but I am calling a spade, a spade, here.Enough said. mad.gif

The first few words sums up your problem. There are no real sportsmen that live in a metro. Being a sportsman is not something you do on a weekend hunting or fishing trip, or by paying dues to some club or association. It's more of a total way of life. I enjoy watching deer grazing in my yard just as much as I enjoy trying to outsmart one and seeing him in my gunsights. Or taking my boys out pheasant hunting to later enjoy a good meal with my family. But equally important, to respect and enjoy listening to a rooster pheasant crowing in my grove at sunset. Or cussing the rabbits for getting into my garden. The only thing I have say to you people that trash out your "back yard" is: you crapped in your own bed now lay in it! Don't come to my place just cuz' I keep it nice!! Just my 2 cents worth.

LOL, I knew this would ruffle some feathers! I enjoyed all the responses it generated, there is some truth in all of them. I will agree that there are slobs everywhere. I'm sure the percentage is the same no matter where you live. It just gets multiplied in the more urban areas just due to the larger number of people. I do love to rock the boat once and awhile!! wink.gif

I don't think the slobs will point themselves out. I think they fall into three categories (this is just a theory)

1) Town Drunks

2) My %$#@ don't stink

3) Immature kids

Well im not against what you have to say here but for clarification, i took #3 as to group all younger people into this here and if that is what you are getting at, then i dont think that is true im a "kid" and everytime i go out i make a big circle around my house with my minnow bait bag and try to fill it with whatever i find. Hoping that your bunching us young bucks into a large group here, but i think some of us "kids" out on the ice are more mature than some others that i have seen on the ice.

One thing that gets overlooked quite a bit are all the dang cigerette butts. I remember walking back to my car after a tournament last year and everywhere I looked there was a cigerette butt laying there. How disgusting -- and that is coming from an on-and-off again smoker (not proud of it)!

    • Sorry to hear that Duff. Will give my GSP's an extra scratch behind the ear for you guys today
    • Aw, man, sorry to hear that.  Shed some tears and remember her well.  They all take a piece of our hearts with them; some more than others.
    • yes sorry for your loss..  our dogs are always special...
    • Truly sorry to hear that duffman! I know that feeling.  Keep the good memories
    • Chamois passed away this weekend a couple days short of her 13th bday. What a great dog to hang out with here at home and on distant adventures. Gonna miss ya big time my little big girl.
    • Sounds pretty sweet, alright. I will check them out, thanks.
    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
