  1. This is my first year having a boat. When do they pull out the docks at the public boat ramps, specifically in the SW part of MN.?

    Fishing reports on the radio?

Some time ago I ran across an a.m. radio station that had fishing reports of the lakes in SW MN. For the life of me I cant remember what station it was, or the day and time. Anybody know?

    Interstate batteries

With the price of gas at almost 4 bucks, I would choose the closest place! It's a no brainer for me, I go to my local mechanic. His prices are a little higher, but spaced out over the life of the battery, the few bucks extra is nothing. I'd much rather give him my business than give it to a big box joint! Plus, he installs it and takes the old one. Easy!

    How fast do you troll?

I've been an avid open water and ice fisherman for years, but I finally bit the bullet and bought a boat. Just wondering what speed you troll at and if you vary it often? I've had some luck at 1.5-2 mph. All the lakes in my area are shallow, and I have been using bottom bouncers.

    Fishing close to aireators?

When fishing the shallow SW MN lakes are the fish more active near the aireators or doesn't it matter? Can oxygen levels get low on an aireated lake, especially a long distance away from them?

    Lets all help out

Quote: The first few words sums up your problem. There are no real sportsmen that live in a metro. Being a sportsman is not something you do on a weekend hunting or fishing trip, or by paying dues to some club or association. It's more of a total way of life. I enjoy watching deer grazing in my yard just as much as I enjoy trying to outsmart one and seeing him in my gunsights. Or taking my boys out pheasant hunting to later enjoy a good meal with my family. But equally important, to respect and enjoy listening to a rooster pheasant crowing in my grove at sunset. Or cussing the rabbits for getting into my garden. The only thing I have say to you people that trash out your "back yard" is: you crapped in your own bed now lay in it! Don't come to my place just cuz' I keep it nice!! Just my 2 cents worth. LOL, I knew this would ruffle some feathers! I enjoyed all the responses it generated, there is some truth in all of them. I will agree that there are slobs everywhere. I'm sure the percentage is the same no matter where you live. It just gets multiplied in the more urban areas just due to the larger number of people. I do love to rock the boat once and awhile!!

  9. Is it better to drain out all of the gas or just put fuel stabilizer in the tank to store my ice auger for the season? I was wondering if draining the gas out might dry out the diaphrams in the carb. thanks
  10. I am pretty much a live bait fisherman, but I am thinking about expanding my presentations for when live bait isn't working. What's your opinion of the Jigging Rapala's & what colors should I buy first? Thanks.
  11. The MN Fishing Regs. states that "No person may erect a dark house, fish house, or shelter within 10 feet of an existing house." Does this mean that my buddy and I can't legally hook our two portables together?
  12. sparky88

Too cold???? Come on, we'er Minnesotan's!!!!

I think its awesome!! We went from fishing in a village of portables two weeks ago to having the place to ourself this weekend. Plus the ice is 3" thicker. I guess there are a lot of fair weather ice fisherman too!

    Keeping your portable warmer!!

OK, I can understand how to mount the insulation in a flip over style house, but how could I install the insulation in my clam 6800? Has anybody done this successfully?

    Pulling fith wheel

I pull a 28' travel trailer with my expedition with a 5.4L. It pulls it ok, but I don't think I would venture into the mountains with it. My expy doesn't like large hills or head winds when pulling the camper (its got the towing package too). I average 7-10 mpg when towing. One thing I have learned about the 5.4L is don't be afraid to let it rev up. It does not have the low end torque that my old 5.8L pickup had, but it seems happy when I drop it down a gear and let it wind up a little
  15. My sons and I enjoy ice fishing, I've been thinking about taking my travel trailer out of storage and camping at the local state parks this winter. Do any of you do this? I'm worried about how my trailer will handle the salty roads. I don't want to rust out the undercarriage. Also, will the furnace keep up in 0 degree weather? I don't plan on using the water system, so that's not an issue. Thanks for your input.
