I've been using weedline in my "dead stick" hole when jigging panfish. Sometimes with a minnow for northerns and occasional walleye..sometimes with nothing..just itself.

Lake i'm mostly fishing is shallow with a 10 to 15 feet center basin..mud bottom out there and the sunnies and crappies are bottom feedin...

Just by itself or with other weeds outside portable it's been effective holding them in area.

I would never use it on my jig rod myself..lose all feel IMO.

Fished a lake north of Steele, ND called Lake Josephine over the past weekend. This is going to be a lake to watch over the next decade as it is young. Stocking just started over the last 5 years, but lots of walleye in the 1-2 pound range. Anyway, a buddy and I put out 4 tip-ups, 2 with the LaDredge Weed Line and 2 without. We caught 25 walley on tip-ups, but the incredible thing is that 19 were caught on the Weed Line. We used about a 10 mono leader at the bottome of the Weed Line. There are no weeds in this lake to speak of and it only makes sense that fish are attracted to the structure-like Weed Line, see food, and attack. I am definitely a believer and will be getting more.

Gillagain....you used the weeds that are actually attached to the line? We have some of the Ladredge Weeds that you drill a separate hole for....the problem we had last week was the northerns were getting tangled in the weed that we generally set about 3-4 feet away from our tip up. I think these are definitely worth a look!

Yeah, what I'm talking about are the Weed Lines. They are basically nylon coated steel leaders with silicon skirts spaced out along the length of the 24 inch leader. I have both kinds, the one with brown skirts that glow in the dark and the other kind which as alternating green and black skirts. On the later kind the skirts themselves don't glow, but the little holder that the skirts are attached too glow. When a fish hits and takes off with them, the skirts fold up like a squid leaving almost no resistance for the fish to feel. Pretty cool. I also have the Reel Weeds which we set up around the permanent shelter. Caught quite a few walleye in the shack as well. Probably the coolest thing I've seen with the Reel Weeds (SOS) is that when I pulled them up at the end of the day, they were absolutely coated with fresh water shrimp. If there would've been more perch in this lake - holy cow would that've brought them in. As it is, however, there are very few perch in the lake. They actually had a tournament out there on Sat. and of the 219 entries, only three perch were caught, but the biggest was 1.5 pounds. If they could stock more perch in the lake, they would be jumbos in a very short time with all those shrimp!

Okay, where the heck can a guy get this? I tried every place I can think of to find some, other than Thorne Bros. They don't have it on their HSOforum yet either. Anybody know? Thanks!

Yeah, I went there and tried several stores already... Gander and Joes didn't even know about it, and a few of the online places didn't have it on their stores... I will call Thorne Bros later. I really want to give it a try, it looks like it could be the thing to make the difference on some days.

Also, I did get a camera cable weed the other day \:\) Haven't tried it yet. Thanks.

    • Truly sorry to hear that duffman! I know that feeling.  Keep the good memories
    • Chamois passed away this weekend a couple days short of her 13th bday. What a great dog to hang out with here at home and on distant adventures. Gonna miss ya big time my little big girl.
    • Sounds pretty sweet, alright. I will check them out, thanks.
    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
    • We have bought a new boat, which we will be picking up this spring. It is an Alumacraft Competitor 165 sport with a 90 horse Yamaha motor. I will be buying and installing a trolling motor,  wondering if I can get some recommendations on what pound thrust I will want for this boat?  Also, I will be selling my old boat, is there a good way to determine the value on an older boat ( mid-80's with a 75 horse 2-stroke  Mariner motor)  I will appreciate any help with these questions.
