Augusta
I am in the market for a food sealer. I will be mostly sealing fish and pheasants. Can anyone recommend a good one and what should I be looking for? Thanks

0 loosegoose
I have a Food Saver and use it mostly for game. It works great. Don't buy the cheapest one though. I think I gave about $180 for mine.
0 hoggs222
Foodsaver for me. I have an older one and it works great. Check Kohls as they always have them 30-50% off.
0 Hookmaster
I've had a food saver for about 6 years. I use it for fish, ducks, steak, chicken, strawberries in one of the cannisters. It works very well. Get one with the built in storage for the bag roll and the cutter.
0 Augusta
Thanks for all the replies everyone. I just purchased a FoodSaver Pro III model for $180.00. I can't wait to use it.
0 Jim Almquist
You will really like what you can do to preserve your food with the Food sealer. When you want to seal any game or fish that has some liquid with it try to freeze it for a couple of hours so it will make a better air tight seal. I find that I really love the ability to vacuum pack quart jars so see if it is possible with yours. I will make 12 quarts of spaghetti sauce and leave about a inch from the top and freeze and the stuff is as fresh as the day I made it.
0 Augusta
Another question, how long does food, let's say, a pheasant last after it's been sealed and put in the freezer? Thanks
0 Powerstroke
It will last a year as a pretty good rule. If you get most of the liquid out and seal it up well I've eaten venison from 2+ years ago and it tasted great. I don't know how I let that one stay hidden, but we found it. Everything should be fine for a year or more.
0 ifishsd
I have had pheasants sealed for over a year. Works better then putting them in a freezer bag that's for sure. Sometimes you have to watch the bags because somehow they like to come unsealed when in the freezer for awhile.
