Primos Can Calls

Does anyone use the doe can call. Any luck with them??? I've had mine for about 2 years and am yet to have any response what so ever to it. Should I throw this in the bag with all the other gimmics to come to the hunting world or just keep being patient???

I have been useing the can for several years and only had it work a few times on smaller bucks and does. The best was one morning I tipped the can and had 5 small bucks come running in. They were right under me, I brought in a smal 10 point that was 100 yards out. But thats only a couple times in hundreds of tries. It will work for you some time.

I've had a nice 8 point come trotting into it last year. Before that, I've taken a few does and a smaller 6 point using it. The 6 point was actually hot on the trail of a doe and after using it, he stopped, started coming towards me, and stopped again and turned broadside for me. What more could you ask for?

I've been using "The Can" for a few years now, with mixed results. I find it to be a touch on the quiet side for my liking if I am trying to bring a deer in from a ways out. For that I have had better luck with a doe call called "The Pipe". But I have had times where deer were fairly close and used it effectively.

I have also tried the can for a few years now. I never had any luck and for most of this season it cruised around in my two year old daughter's camo purse. She loves using it along with the other hand me downs I am giving her as she learns how to hunt before she can pull a bow. LOL.

She loves the Old Noel Feather grunt I gave her after purchasing the True talker this year.

Anyway back to the topic last weekend. I had the biggest Buck yet of the 15 years I have bow hunted come out of a clearing I was watching that has many nice rubs. Mind you I was on the ground. I was just checking things

out tucked in behind a dead fall. Down wind of course from were I was hoping to see something.

Rather dark at this time also and a shot would need to be close to be ethical IMO.

He is angling away from me about 80 yards, I hit the grunt... he stops and looks my way motionless for about 3 min.

Then starts on his way again and I stop him again with the grunt. A few seconds pass this time and he starts heading out again. This time I pull out the old CAN CALL that has spent most the season cruising around in my youngin's purse

Flip it twice and he drops his head and comes in to about 50 yards. Stops and looks right at me. Puts his head down and comes in to about 25 yrds. Looks up again, back down again and I figure this will be my only chance to draw and hold, hoping he will continue coming at me.

Nope.. He had different plans. Looked up again.. twitched his tail a bit turned and just troted off to were he came from. Not a full stage alarm, but he knew something was not right.

Along with my 41 year old heart getting a spot check it was a great expeirience I will never forget and I honestly feel that if not for the CAN CALL he would never have changed his course and came in so close to me.

I will be back down there again tommorow on the ground again as I have no stands set up in this area. I would love to get him, but just to see him again would be nice. The gun season is still going in this area 3B. I am on 60 acres of private property.

YOU NEVER KNOW. Any I will keep my CAN CALL as part of the chess game.

HAPPY THANKS GIVING !!!!

I have used the can for several years now. DO NOT THROW IT AWAY! No, it doesn't work all the time, but a couple times a year I have some great results with it. As mentioned, it works best when you see a buck that is traveling out of range. In this case, if around the rut, it will bring that buck closer almost every time. I also have had sucess useing it blind, calling every half hour or so while on stand. It works often enough that you should definetly keep it in your bag of tricks.

I would agree with DonBo. I also have had mixed results with it and will say that I have had better results with it during the chase phase. Earlier in the season I have used it and scared bucks away with it.

It will be of benefit if one uses it at the correct times. I cannot explain all the exact times to use it when it does work but I'm learning.

JKInd of like rattling bags or horns, at times they work and at other times they dont.

Just another handy tool to help one pull a deer into range.
