lawdog
CHOKE? Jeff has scored ten less points in the chase than Jimmy Johnson how is that choking? In any fair system the leader going in is still leading when the playoff starts so where would that put them? You Gordon haters are so out there you can't even fathom reality of how good these two teams are running. Its head and shoulders above chumps like Stewart, Kenseth and the other also rans compared to the 24 and 48!
muc33
I love nascar for the fact that people get so intense about it. hehehehehe. So I can't stand Jeff Gordon. Whoopeee, Yes, I like Jr. Whoopeeee!!! Guess what, by liking or disliking any of them I still have to go to work and earn a check to pay the bills and neither of them really give a hoot if I defend them and get my undies in a bunch. Oh if only you could see how hard I am lauging over this. I love the fact that as I read posts like this I can visualize some of you all red in the face typing with cuss words coming out of yoru mouths as you type!!!! fishinchicks
At least nobody has whined about boring races lately. We have bleacher seating for Sunday's race (I'd like to meet the guy who thought that was a good idea!). My biggest dilemma is, do I get a seat cushion of my favorite driver, or one that I don't like? Then, sitting on it could have some meaning, right? Eric Wettschreck
Get 2 cushions. One for when you are in the draft, and the other for when you are hung out to dry.
Sutty
I think a discussion such as this is part of the sport scene in general. It keeps people interested and shows there passion for a sport. Look at baseball. How many years was there an asterisk next to Roger Maris's name because he had more games to do it in. Wasn't he playing by the rules of the time. Should Bert Blyleven be in the Hall because of his stats etc. His run support sure wasn't there. How about football. Is the Dolphin's undefeated season less impressive if the Patriots run the table this year because the Pats would win more games. Or is it less impressive because the fish did it with a back-up QB for most of the season. Is it more impressive today to win a Nextel Cup than it was years ago? Stats are fun to debate as long as it stays fun. Some day Gordon will retire, when he does people will debate where he stands compared to the other great drivers. All this stuff will be hashed and rehashed and dead horses will be kicked. Its all part of being a fan.

PikeBayCommanche
My last comment on the whole deal is thisit is sad to see racing turn into a ratings game instead of plain old racing. They will never beat football in ratings thats just how it is.Go Jeff and Carl!

I only have one thing really to say about the chase. I like the way the bonus points go for winning races in the season, but I don't think they should all start out at 5000 with 10 bonus points per win. I would like to see a mix of old and new, stagger them by 5 or 10 points and then do the bonus points. I know that it wouldn't make any difference in the Gordon/Johnson debate as Johnson would be ahead by 25 still and people would still be up in arms. I just don't like how they basically take them and tell them it is time to start over and you have a few bonus points to seperate yourself from the others. Go Denny! lawdog
If they are going to have this ridiculous chase format, I agree you can't just ignore the season points going into the chase and base their chase points all on wins. You can come into the chase 12th and be leading week one because your rotten season full of DNF's also contained a bunch of wins. Consistency and points are totally disregarded in favor of just wins. It should be a combination of both. Also, if you are going to have a Chase format, fix the schedule so we race on a broader range of tracks. We have what 5 or 6 1.5 mile tracks in the 10 races? All the different types of tracks should be represented, that includes a road course and includes a plate track and includes Darlington and Richmond and Indy and Pocono and Dover etc. Make them run all the types of tracks to win, not just the cookie cutters! This format should never have been implemented, but if you are going to have one, at least make it a good one!
Harmonica Bear
I like the chase format; you qualify and then you all start on an even playing field. Just becuase you have the best record doesn't mean you win the World Series, Superbowl or Stanley Cup.
