Skeg ?

Rivernut

Question

Broke of about 2" of my skeg. Just enough so a small amount of the prop is lower than the skeg. Any amount of unprotected prop is too much. Any idea's on how or where to get fixed. Hoping for something a little less spendy than a 115.00 dollar Skeggard! Thanks fo any idea's. Live in Blaine.

I just had my rebuilt at Boater's Warehouse in Roseville. This last one was covered by insurance and had some other work on it so I don't recall how much the skeg was specifically but I do recall thinking it reasonable. They have always provided me with quality and timely service even in the peak of the seasons.

One thing to consider is that I have seen were if you hit something off center with the skeg gaurd it can bust off the whole skeg, then there is no fixing it. Then you have to replace the whole housing. Not something that you see allot but I have a couple of times. BTW with one of them the ins co did not want to cover it since the customer modified the lower unit, not sure how it ended up.

I busted off a few inches of my skeg. I thought I'd save some time and $ and bought a skeg guard. I bottomed out a few weeks later and lost the guard and the rest of the skeg. Took the boat to Ickler machine shop in St. Cloud. They repaired my skeg and painted it for about $80. Should have done that in the first place.

Thanks alot for all the replies. I am going to check around and have a machine shop repair it. That was kind of what my gut instinct was telling me anyway. Again, thanks for the response, as always FMer's come through! Take care, Mike.
