Funny how its all NDSU folks posting on this topic. smile.gif

My vote is for the UND Fighting Catfish!

Lots of big kitties up there, might as well have your name after something the town is known for. grin.gif

Scoot you are just full of them. Chris you point out a good point. Maybe us NDSU folk are being too hard on them guys from up north.

On second thought I don't think we are either. We are just a helpful group of people.

I'd like to see it changed to the UND Rough Riders.....with a logo of a cavalryman carrying a guidon in full charge. It would honor good ol' Teddy and fits the western theme of ND. As a UND alumni I'd hate to see the fighting sioux go- but, if the native americans don't want the logo then let's change and be done with it.

Marine man - many ducks moving in this week? I'm heading "home" next Tuesday for a week of hunting and was hoping to chase some waterfowl if they're around. Of course, with pheasant hunting and deer hunting it's hard to get all of the hunting in over a few days.

They're definately moving... if you can extend your weekend I think your shooting will be even better.. they're talking about a pretty good cold snap starting monday afternoon and into tuesday that should be pushing some ducks out of Canada pretty good...

Not sure how valuable my opinion is since I'm an alumnus of the "better" school down south but I really, really don't want to see the nickname or logo changed at all.

Last article I read in the Herald when I was home was the decision is going to be left up to the Indians to vote on. If they approve, UND will keep the nickname & logo.

I'm a UND Alum.

Personally think the "University of North Dakota Fighting Sharps" has a nice ring to it.

For the PC types: Sharptails. Native Bird. Cool dancing grouse mascot. Great possibility for a spring party around the dancing grounds theme.

For the Rest of us: "Sharps". Legendary rifle of the Great Plains Buffalo Hunters. Followed (chased off) "Fighting Sioux" more than once. "Sharps" has a good ring to it.

So ... killed Bison. Drove off Sioux. What is not to like?

I go to school at UND and no issue has ever [PoorWordUsage]ed me off or made me debate something so much as this one has. I won't even get into my feelings about it because I am at work and would have to clock out to write my story... but there still is a way to keep it... most of you know that i am assuming but further than that more and more details are being pulled out from deep behind the scenes.. tribal members mad because they don't have a say, only the tribal leaders do... its only about 2 percent of anybody who wants it changed besides maybe some of you gophers fans just to be difficult.. If it did ever change... UND migration, UND mallards, UND ice/frost/freeze whatever would be suiting if you ask me... but thats if you ask me, others are interested in unlikely names such as calvary, roughriders, nakotas... basically names that students wouldn't dig... its a touchy subject for sure around my campus and a facebook group (petition) was recently created that has 6,000 new members over the course of a week... enough rambling.. go sioux!
