Better get used to it. I have a feeling that's what we're going to see out of this team all season. Their "D" was bad last year; and they lost the 3 best d-men they had. Unless Frazee can stand on his head all season, look for a mid-pack finish in the WCHA. I don't know who came up with the rankings to start the season, but there is no way this team should have been #3, they aren't even #3 in this conference.

Geez, give the team a chance. The season is young and they certainly didn't get "blown off the rink". Saturday was better than Friday and besides, it just may take them a bit to get their feet completely underneath them. After all, they are the Gophers and in most cases, they find a way. Oh, we need Frazee to stand on his head too. grin.gif

I'm stickin' with the Gophers through it all.

Aren't you forgetting about our first place MN Wild?

There is a good chance that the Gophers are going to struggle a little this year. They will still be decent, but it may be a "rebuilding" year for them. It's really sad that all of these kids are leaving college so early now. The glory years of four year players and great college hockey teams may be a thing of the past.

Lucia is losing too many of the best Minnesota kids to other programs. He needs to broaden the recruiting scope and get better players regardless of where they're from.

I also don't see the benefit of making a kid play two seasons of junior hockey before their eligible to be a Gopher. I think it's hockey's way of making jobs for coaches who seemingly do little more than open and close the bench door.

I agree with the recruiting part.

I do disagree with you on kids playing Jr hockey thats an unbelievable way for kids to develop and mature physically, playing against better competition for 60 games a year really can help a player and give a college coach a better understanding on how a kid will play at the College level.

What I was pointing out was that we really are spoiled that we expect nothing less the Frozen Fours and championships around here and that when the team is young and reloading people come out ripping for being only better than most and not one of the best.

No they're great 2 but,it will only last so long (the unbeaten streak) & they yet are to bring home the cup, which might be just because of being reletivly new to the league. They did the same thing last year 2 & then kinda peetered out from there. Gophers, I guess are more consistent, overall smirk.gif Ya that sux 2 now even the college kids are about the $$$ 2, not the game,kinda sad, but hey, if you could make a few mill. you would probly take it 2

      If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.

      Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...

      Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?

      We have bought a new boat, which we will be picking up this spring. It is an Alumacraft Competitor 165 sport with a 90 horse Yamaha motor. I will be buying and installing a trolling motor,  wondering if I can get some recommendations on what pound thrust I will want for this boat?  Also, I will be selling my old boat, is there a good way to determine the value on an older boat ( mid-80's with a 75 horse 2-stroke  Mariner motor)  I will appreciate any help with these questions.
