St. Johns vs. Gophers

Who would win, the Gophers or the Jonnies if they played right now? I would say it would be close, the gophers couldn't beat some high school teams right now.

St. Cloud State beat Whitewater. Whitewater generally handles St. John's. St. Cloud State is bad this year. There's a reason most DIII kids are playing at at that level.

My Johhnies (SJU '93) are perenielly the best team in the state in their division, BUT, D3 to the Big Ten is more than any team can leap. Sadly the pathetic Gophers would handle the Johnnies. Plus, I think we are actually a little down this year compared to the last few. Have been vulnerable in a few games.

UWL beat SDSU not too long ago. SDSU is a solid 1aa team. The difference between the smaller and bigger schools gets less noticalble every year. Just look at all of the upsets of top 10 teams. I think the Gophers would have their hands full with St. Johns

Your Johnnies are not perennially the best team in the state in their division...My Royals are just as good, especially this year (Bethel '03)...I won't argue they're solid, and definitely one of the best teams...but they don't win the MIAC every year, and haven't had a great showing in the playoffs in forever, granted they have won it once, but only made it to the finals twice in the last 20 years...the gophs would cream the Johnnies, they're going to get beat on Nov.10 anyway...

DREAM ON! The Johnnies are a combined 67-6 in the MIAC since 1999 and overall 98-15 with a national championship and 6 MIAC conf. titles either by themselves or in a tie in that eight year period. November 10 your Royales will be another bug on the windshield of the red machine!!!

You guys have had too many close calls this season to think you can beat the Royals this year In that same period, 1999 to present they Royals are 55-13 with 3 MIAC championships, so all I'm sayin is your Johnnies are a great team, and yes they are perenially one of the best teams in D3 ball...but not the best, and they certainly aren't alone up there on the top...The Royals aren't even going to break a sweat cruising to a victory on Nov 10

Now being an impartial fan to either team (U of M, 94), I will say I have to give the nod to the Johnnies. The numbers dont lie, they are the best over the long haul. It will be good game on the 10th that is for sure. I will be pulling for both teams in the playoffs.

I think the Gophs would win though. Tough year for them for sure, but I think they would.

The Gophers are bad, REALLY BAD, but I think it is a heck of stretch to think the Johnnies or any DIII team could beat them. Overall team speed being the biggest reason. As far as SJU vs. Bethel. You can't argue that due to its tradition and legendary coach SJU is thought of as a top 5 team in the country each year in DIII. However, there is no arguing the fact that Bethel, Concordia and St. Olaf have come a long way in the last 10 years to make the conference much more competitive. It should be a good one next week, but SJU you will have to me a non factor in the MIAC for a few years before they won't be considered the favorite by most folks.

Looking at the DIII playoff bracket, perhaps it will be Johnnies-bethel on Dec. 1. Winner slaps up on Mount Union.
