Federal Hi-Power RIP OFF shotgun shells!!!!!!!!!

Okay I wanted to know if the store I was at put the wrong price on the 20 ga. shells I went to buy last night.

I bought a box of Federal 20 ga. 7/8 oz 7 1/2 shot shells for $3.89

Seen a box of Fed. 20 ga. 1 oz. 7 1/2 shot HI POWER shells for like $10.50

I hope this was a mistake by the store cause how do you go from 3.89 to 10.50?????? FOR LEAD???

Im not buying federal anymore if this is the case.

Was the second box a copper plated pellet?

Well lead costs about the same as steel now and if you see a box of high power shells for 3.99 you better buy all they got. If you want cheaper shells work at federal.

I would guess that the cheaper shells were marked low by mistake. I would buy a case of them for that price.

Were the cheaper priced ones low base and the others high base?

$3.80 is the going price for 20 and 12 gauge Target & Game loads. Thats they're bottom of line loads which are fine for grouse and Target. The $3.89 20 gauge is 7/8 oz shot weight @1200 fps, with a 2 1/4 Drams Equiv.

Federal is changing they're look and using catchy names like GAME-SHOK GAME LOAD or GAME-SHOK HEAVY FIELD so you have to compare the specs. Shot weight, Drams Equiv & FSP.

I use the Game and Target loads for shooting trap and grouse but reload my pheasant and Turkey loads or specialty light loads for kids. So I'm not up on the Hi-Power but thought it was a steel shot load which explains the price increase and thats the going price.

If I'm incorrect and its lead then there are some differences between that and the Game & Target loads.

The Drams Equiv will be higher. 1oz of "hard shot" verses 7/8th "cold shot"(soft shot), fps is higher. At any rate the two loads you are different and price will reflect that.

Thought I'd add Jr and I are heading out the door in a few minutes after Grouse with the same Game loads.

Its that I just dont ever remember paying more than 7 bucks a box for 12 ga. fed high power, thats why I was so suprised when I saw this.

Ammo prices are going crazy. But there is also huge differences in every aspect of a $4 box and a $10 box. Not that you will kill more birds. But differences. Cut a few shells open and look whats inside. That was one of my hobbies as a kid. Got lots of trips to the woodshed but I sure learned a lot bout shotshell innards.

So there is less money that goes into making 2 boxes of the 4.00 shells than the 1 box of hi power. I find that hard to believe. Im just wondering why the price jacked up so much this year.

I am sure that was a store mistake, ANY ammunition this year will have scary prices. I have a good friend of mine which is a dealer and he's cost is 3 times as much compared to last year.

China industry is buying all the metals available.

I agree Valv. A lot of the things that we took for granted are being consumed by China. Anything from steel to gasoline, and even our jobs. This is one of the biggest reasons that fuel has become so expensive. Much of the manufacturing has gone to China and in order to operate the factories, they need fuel. Not to mention that there are a lot more people who are now working and purchasing vehicles.

There is such a high quantity of jobs going to China that even Mexico is nervous. The company that I work for has sent work to Mexico since the 1980's and now they're taking much of that work to China.

I guarantee more money goes into one box of $10 shells than 2 boxes of $4. Every single component costs more. the plastic used in the hull is even different. The pellets are a higher grade, everything.

China might be raising the cost of ammo but the US military shooting a billion rounds a year isnt helping matters any.

After all the hype about high shell prices this year I found Federal 3 inch #2 steel for $8.99 a box at Fleet Farm in St. Cloud. I prefer 2 3/4 inch shells, which they were out of, but I thought that was a good price, so I bought ten boxes, which should get me thru the year.

Now there is an excellent idea to boycott a manufacturer if I ever heard one....I would stay away from their hats as well cuz they represent higher prices for higher quality.
