bassNspear
What do you all think of the new the rule the DNR places for not having to licence your portable fishhouse as a darkhouse anymore. THe new rule stats that is you take your house off the lake everynight, you dont have to get a licence. Gota love that huh.Still have to get your spearing licence, just dont have to get one for the house.what you all think?
monstermoose78
sounds like there might be some big holes in the ice but i think it is a good thing.

EatSleepFish
drilling a 3x3 foot hole, then moving your house. Someone comes along with a larger truck a few hours or day after and they got a tire stuck in the ice.
crazyice
Yeah I could see that as a potential problem. I sure wouldn't want to be the next guy to find a spearing hole by mistake.
bassNspear
thanks why you push the block back into the hole, and place a tree branch in the hole so people know that it was there. Then you cant have a mistake.
EatSleepFish
good point, hopefully all portable spearers will have the thought to warn others of where there is holes.
bassNspear
it should be a no brainer for people to do this. Should NEVER EVER keep block on the top of the ice.
RussDaBuss
I looked thru the laws but do not see this mentioned. Where did you see this? I like it though...
JP Z
BNS, where did you see this? I just looked at the updated regs online but nothing.
bassNspear
I was reading about it in the ICE FORUM, also read about it the the Minnesota DarkHouse Assc. Newspaper.
troyfideldy
Intersting to see the DNR give up a way to to make funds with the shelter licenses. All I wish for is more people to understand spearing and how tough it can be.
bassNspear
I understand what your saying about how to get people to understand more about spearing. Its a hard subject that alot of people have mixed feelings about. I love talking to people about it, becuase its something have has been in my family for many many years. troyfideldy
Bass N spear I hear you. The biggest down I have had about this HSOforum is how unaccecpting people are of other peoples ideas and actions. Last winter I had posted a picture of a nice picture of me and a fish I had speared. The photo was posted in the Muskie/Pike Photo. It had to be removed because of so many email complaints on how it was a "speared" fish. As long as spearing is legal guess I will just have to show as many people as possible and continue the great sport.
bassNspear
I understand your frustrations about this subject. I see both sides of the story. THere is going to be people out there that just dont understand the sport because they have never done it or seen it done. The reason that some people are like this, is becuase they are always going off by the bad stories that they are hearing. Not the stories about people that are out there follwoing the laws, and showing people the great sport of spearing!!
Scott M
Quote:thanks why you push the block back into the hole, and place a tree branch in the hole so people know that it was there. Then you cant have a mistake. I usually bring orange flagging with me a tree branches. You always hope things freeze up, but I don't cut a block (don't have an ice saw...yet). I haven't heard of anyone falling through these holes or getting stuck, knock on wood, but nothing really changes for me with this regulation. I spear one day, pick up everything, mark the hole, and leave.
bassNspear
See i am the same way, i ALWAY use my portable. So i never have the same hole, and always replace the hole with a stick and push my block in from the ice spear.
Hammer Handle
I always stay on the same hole. If you find a great spot for spearing, odds are it would be great for weeks or even months.I love to spear. The best fishing sport out there. 2 years ago I taught my wife to spear and my nephew. They both love it! My wife's fish fish was a 6.5 pounder. This year, I am teaching my 14 year old niece. I don't know who is more excited.... bassNspear
Im glad that there is people that are still out there teaching other people the game of spearing. Its a great sport to get other people involed. Somewhere down the line this year, i am going to have a Spearing Get-To-Gator. Get people out and enjoy the spearing world. Talk and hang out. BMAT43
I am in for a Get-To-Gator... My father took me spearing for the first time about 7 years ago as it was something he used to do with his dad... had an absolute blast... took my now 14yr old son 2 years ago when he was up over christmas the first fish he speared fit between the tines but boy was he excited to be able to watch that little one come in and hammer the decoy.... fishuhalik
I hear you guys, if it's done right spearing really doesn't hurt a lake. I'm coming from the other side of it, though, I guess I personally am anti-spearing, although there is no problem with you guys doing it as long as you stay in the laws. Like I said there is many responsible guys out there that only take a few nice fish every year and stick w/ the under 30" fish for the majority, but there's always that one guy on the lake that sticks everything he sees and i've seen several lakes in my home area (grand rapids) speared out in a single year. I am absolutely in love of fishing through a spear hole, which I believe is even more of a challenge at times than spearing. However, I spose it's kinda hard to hit a pike when it comes in at 30 mph and smokes your decoy! Anyways, just wanted to let some of you guys know how I feel and what I've observed and wanted to say thank you to those of you who spear responsibly! Cheeser
Speaking of spearing, anyone going to the Fall Classic Carving competition this Saturday up in Maplewood? Sounded like a lot of fish carvers are going to be there. Maybe a chance for some of you guys to pick up some decoys and stuff.
