Just took a look at the river gauge in Jordan. Prediction is that by 8/26 it will be at near flood stage! We're talking 4ft to 23ft in a weeks time.

This will change everything.

Great! Time to put the boat away! mad.gif

This will be interesting. Especially since we got rain predicted for just about everyday this week. I bet she will get a little higher.

Hanson, this is just the fish shuffle, Though a tempting thought to pack up the boat.

To the rest of ya!! I hope you remember the Layout of all those sweet snags. That have been sitting High and dry for the last 2 months.

Larry, I agree to a point about the fish shuffle. However, this is new territory for me, and I'll admit, a big learning curve as well. I've never fished the MN in the late summer with a seriously rising, flooding river. We'll see.

I HAVE fished my other favorite rivers, the Red & Red Lake for cats during rising, high water conditions and its been nothing but tough. Seriously tough.

My guess is to focus back on early summer spots. If thats the case, Darren and I have a couple trips lined up already. smile.gif

Of course, Sturgeon opening on the Croix in 12 days will provide relief from the headache of catching flats in a flood.

At least its still awhile before the end of the season. Recall 2 years ago when we got a ton of rain at the very first part of Oct. And the season was ended like that.

Early season spots will probably not be what we are expecting. With a huge wash coming through. Many snags will shift but the prospect for a bunch of new ones could be promising.

We shall have to see.

thanks

I was out at the St. Peter landing area last night. The sandbar is gone. I found a spot 25 feet deep, and before that the deepest I found was 22 feet. Not sure if it means the water has gone up three feet, but it would not suprise me judging by the sandbar. Only had one good run on a frog, and I think Chris is right. This will be a new learning experience for a lot of us.

I'm taking my daughter to school this morning in Henderson and will check out the ramp.

I wouldn't plan on high water for too long its going to drop almost as fast as it has risen.

It will, but if it doesnt stop raining down here, it will stay high for a while.

Fishing will be slowed during the dirty water and the rise of the river, but once it crests, the bite will pick back up again. Which will only make it better fall fishing, now you will be able to take your boat down the river.

Looked at the National Weather Service peak prediction again this morning. Looks like the curve is already lagging behind the predicted values.

My prediction based on the slope is that the river won't peak past 15 feet at the Jordan gauge.

Should be about perfect for a couple weeks after that. What is perfect you ask??

Perfect is any stable or falling gauge level that's still high enough that the river is easily navigable in a small boat......about 7 feet or higher at Jordan.

Wow the guys at NOAA must be weathermen. They missed their prediction by 11ft. Its at about 12ft right now and on it's way back down.

Fishing should be good this weekend!
