Diesel Problem..airjer?

I just put $2300 into my transmission so naturally I'm having problems with my diesel engine. It's a 92 6.5 Turbo Diesel. When starting everything is fine for the first few seconds, it starts up, idles good, then revs up (on its own) and kills. It's almost like it's flooding. To start it I put pedal to the metal and it does the same thing one or two more times, then stays running. It runs fine except going up steep hill when it's cold. Then it seems to "take off" on it's own. Any ideas? Thanks

Sounds like you might have some air or leak in a fuel line some where. Do you know if they had to disconnect any fuel lines when they did your transmission?

By your description, it sounds like the air is getting purged after your second or third start.

Gunflint, do you have the PMD module moved from motor to fender of truck ?

6.5s had many problems with the electronic control of the injection pump, to fix it you had to install the module away from top of motor where it was getting hot.

I had 2 of them and both had same issue which was solved by moving PMD module to left front fender, adding a cooling fin, and of course a harness extension.

When truck acts funny try to get a bottle of water and pour it on left side of fuel pump, if it runs fine for a minute or so, PMD might be your problem.

I once traveled 200 miles using a case of Coke I had in truck to cool off my pump....it was a mess all over the motor but I got home.

These are all good possibilities. Yes, they disconnected fuel lines when working on the tranny. Upon closer inspection I discovered a possible fuel leak along the underside of the bed. Also when this problem started it only happened when the engine was warm but now it happens on a cold start. The fuel filter has less than 400 miles on it. So far this sounds like an affordable problem. The biggest issue will be giving up a day of fishing tomorrow to try and track this down.

Don't forget to check your fuel return lines. If there's an air leak you can have problems like this as well.
