ONE eye or TWO eyes

Last night I was shooting and I noticed I can shoot both ways. sometimes with one eye sometimes two. and I think thats why my grouping is all over the place mainly at 30-40yards. I steped up to 15yds and shot 2 with both eyes open and they were 2 inchs to the left of the (Contact Us Please). then I shot one with only one eye and it was dead center, so I shot a nother with both eyes and it shot left again so i figuerd I try one more with one eye and dead center of the other dead center -Robin hooded- @$#$$@ . So should I sight in for one eye or two? I think thats why last fall I shot to the left becuse on live game I would use 2 eyes for beter sight on the deer..

This is an eye dominance issue. If you do a search of this forum, I'm sure you'll find a few posts on this topic.

Most everyone has a dominant eye. I shoot right handed, but I'm left eye dominant, so I have to shut my left eye to properly aim with my right eye.

The reason your arrows are grouping to the left is because when you have both eyes open your left eye takes over and you’re actually lining up the pin with your left eye.

There is plenty of literature on the subject. Google “Eye Dominance”.

since you are both righ thand and eye dominant, i would suggest shooting with both eyes open! you need to work at keeping the target in your main vission, and bring the sight into it.( it may be blurry at first, but you will be able to pick it out and place it against your target shortly!)they claim if you shoot with both eyes open, you will be more consistant , and you will have better depth perception. del

You saying one should shoot with both eyes open? Maybe thats why I never hit any deer as I have been shooting with both closed.

Seriously, I have shot with only one eye open for years but do believe you might be better off if you use both eyes.

I shot with one eye open for years. The biggest problem I had was losing the deer in my field of view when looking through the peep. Its really nice to see the whole target when you are in the woods at dusk or low light conditions. I can now shoot with both eyes open pretty easily and accurately. However, It takes some getting used to. Start aiming with one eye closed and when you have the pin where you want it, open both eyes. You will eventually train your brain to line up the sight with your right eye and you will shoot great and have a full field of view. I can now draw back and aim with both eyes open and I have been much more successful in the fall. This spring I put on a much larger peep sight and that also helped immensly. I swear my old peep had an eigth inch diameter. Good luck, do whats comfortable.

yup! one can be accurate with one eye, but having both eyes open does help depth perception, and gives you more pheriphial(sp??) vision! ( like when you pull back on a nice buck, and out of the corner of your eye you see an even BIGGER one coming IN! ) del

One Eye for me as well.

I do like to look with both eyes until I am ready to shoot and then I focus with one and let 'er rip.

I'm a 2 eyes dude... when you close one eye, you loose all depth preception...

I keep both eyes open. When I shoot bow, shotgun, rifle, it doesn't matter. I keep them both open. I don't know why. It's a habit, it works well for me.
