firebug
SAY LOOKING TO BUY THE ENVINRUDE E-TECH(115HP). WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK OF THIS MOTOR?
Try Too Fish
Have you given any thought to four-stroke! If used for mostly fishing 4-stroke are hard to beat imho! Quiet, never foul out or load up if used for trolling!! E-tec is realy pushing for sales to get some out, but time will be the judge as they are new tech. tims
I bought one this spring. Its a nice motor. No problems so far. Trolls down to 2.3 on my 17 ft boat. Nice torque, sips gas and oil, easy starting. Only complaint ive had was low top end speed. However, I have yet to play around with props. Nice improvement over my old 2-stroke.
Central Bassman
I would agree with what Try Too Fish said about the four strokes. I would look into a Yamaha or a Mercury before i would pull the trigger on a E-tec!!! They haven't been around long and they aren't much different then the older Envinrude!! bassNspear
I can tell you this! Evinrude is horrible for getting techs out to help with everything. Great motor, but poor service.
Shorelunch
Firebug, I've had the opportunity to drive and ride in quite a few boats powered by E-Tec's (from the 115's - 250 hp's). I'm impressed by their performance and the other pluses of the E-Tec. However, my first priority would be buying from a dealer with good service - that goes for any brand of motor. You'll get many postive responses on this, and other sites, along with the negative. I wouldn't lose sleep with any brand of motor out there, so for me, the dealer comes first followed by brand preference. If you do pull the trigger on the E-Tec, I think you'll be happy
uffdapete
A pro I know who fishes the Canadian Bass Championship was in the top 10 going into the last day in last year's tournament. His E-tech blew on his way out the last day forcing them to fish close to the start with the electric so they could get back in time and ended up barely qualifying for this year. The motor was 3-4 months old. He also told me that out of 30-35 outboards he's had 3 (Japanese) that haven't been to the hospital. I just bought a Yamaha. Unfortunately, pro's blowing motors occasionally happens. That's why every brand of motor has the tech trailers there. There's been issues with Opti's, E-Tecs, HPDI's and 4-strokes. They all have their trips to the trailers.
MarchelRipley1
I know a guy that works for Fishing the Wildside that is scared of E-tecs. Thats all I should say.

firebug
A FREIND OF MINE IS GOING TO BUY A NEW BOAT/MOTOR AND WANTS ME TO HELP HIM OUT. HE WOULD JUST LIKE SOME IN PUT FROM GUYS WHO HAVE DIFFERENT EXPERIENCES WITH MOTORS. IF YOU TALK TO A DEALER THE BRAND THEIR SELLING IS THE BEST THING SLICED BREAD. BY THE WAY I THINK MY FREIND IS GETTING CONFUSED WITH ALL DIFFERENT CHOICES. HE REALLY WANTS A LUND OR CRESTLINER BUT DOES NOT WANT THE MERCURY MOTOR. IT'S TOO BAD WHAT THEY HAVE DONE(LUND,CRESTLINER).
Central Bassman
Hey Firebug. You can get a Crestliner with a Yamaha on it at Crystal Pierz...It just needs to be a brand new ordered boat from Crestliner!!! Drop me an email i know some ppl that can get him the Crestliner that he wants!!
caseymcq
Take a look at Alumacrafts. The quality of the boat is equal to a Lund they can be rigged with any motor on the market. Like Crestliner and Lund, Alumacrafts are made in Minnesota.
Borch
They all have their issues occassionally. No matter what brand you look at there will be stories of blown engines or leaking boats. Look for someone near you who provides good service, That way if something does go wrong with your setup you'll be taken care of.Good Luck! I bet Merc and Yamaha never had an engine blow!
Down2Earth
My next boat will be powered by an e-tec. Buddy has 115 and it's excellent.
rollineyes
I bought a 2007 50hp Etec with a tiller handle in June. It has had two minor problems, both of which the dealer fixed in a timely manner. I love the motor. I uses very, very little oil and it also barely sips gas. I used it hard for 6 days up north this summer. My son pulled people on a tube two different times and I also did alot of trolling during those 6 days. When we left up there, I filled up the tank on the boat and I had only used about 14 gallons of gas for the entire time. It is pushing a 1650 Explorer, most of the time with at least 4 adults in it. rollineyes
