KOTC Mid-Summer Get Together

Yes, it all depends on the water level. Like I said, right now, no problem. There are a couple of stretches that get a little shallow. Not a whole lot of wood, just shallow (read sand).

There might be a few that take out boats and hit a few spots during the night. I don't mind being stuck on this sandbar as there are some real hogs swimming around wink.gif

In an extream back up status, I could bring boat. It is nice to cruise down in car, rather than taking the big SUV and boat behind (coming from Princeton).

Well, I'm open to any suggestions, but here's what I was thinking.

Water levels will determine boat launch, and I have backup plans depending on what the water is looking like.

Plan A would allow us to either launch in Belle Plaine or Jordan. Plan B would be Jordan only with probably a better location for space and socializing, but not as good shore fishing.

I was thinking of meeting mid to late afternoon at a determined launch and coordinating transportation. I plan on spending the night and hopefully others will as well. I don't have a tent, so I might have to pick one up. I'll bring my grill, which is decent size, but still portable.

I'd probably shore fish, but there are plenty of good spots nearby if others want to fish a little more seriously.

Any suggestions, let me know.

Well I would like to plan on staying all night but I am heading up with Kyle and don't know what he is wanting to do yet. I can bring some food and some firewood.

Tent? Who needs a tent. I am used to sitting in my chair all night. A cot probably wouldnt be a bad idea.

Sometimes it is easier to bring a chain saw instead of firewood, but in kyles boat there should be lots of room for anything.

Very true but without knowing where we are going to hold this, a wood supply might not be available, nor do I have a chainsaw. laugh.gif

Grant

If you have extra room in your tent and I dont stay up all night, I will take that extra space. I can also bring lights and a couple good steaks and drink.

Maybe team river rats can get a few fish.

tom- no problem, if nothing else it would be a break from the bugs. of course, now that I've opened my big mouth I should make sure all the parts are there for said tent! smile.gif

anyway, I've also got a question for the gallery- for bonfire wood, I'd be willing to try and procure some scrap pallets- let me know if this would work. - and if the water's too skinny for my boat I'd just need to have someone with a jetboat who can help haul to the sandbar.

If the water holds steady, there should be no problem with most boats.

The pallets are a good idea as long as we can get them there. I do know that they make GREAT bonfires grin.gif I'm thinking a chainsaw is probably all we'll need.

I got one of them Q's too Grant. I think it's the larger one...I love it.

got my Q when there was just the one size- I think it's the middle one now? I use mine all the time. what do you think, 20# tank or a bunch of 1# cans? anyway, I know I've seen pallets all over the place with "free" signs on them... seems like a good use to me~

The stihl is not going anywhere near the river

awww, there goes the "who can cast a chainsaw the furthest" contest grin.gif

Grant, did you modify your Q so you can use the coleman size disposable tanks? That's what I did and works pretty good. I might bring my 20lb, but I can go pretty long on a few 1lbers.

by modify do you mean take off that metal hoop that holds the skinny tanks? I had for a while until I got the 20# adapter hose, then I put it back on so I wouldnt loose it.

I'm still waffling if I want to use 1#'s or the big one- I'd probably go large if I knew there'd be a constant flow of meat across it wink.gif

I think I am in. Might have to bring the daughters for this one. I have been promising to get them out again. This sounds like the perfect time for that.

dtro.....how remote is this sandbar????

Is there a mile or so of clearance in most directions??

just trying to decide on the size of the UFO's. grin.gif

The sandbar is actually about 1/3 of a mile from the nearest road through the state park. No trail leading directly to it, but the snowmobile trail isn't far away either.

I wonder how many pallets the 'Pro could hold? grin.gif

I can probably bring one of my cheaper chain saws if I sharpen one of the chains. The stihl is not going anywhere near the river

did you ever get that chain sharpened?

I've been promised as many of those huge wooden crates that they ship panes of glass in as I can stuff in my truck (and maybe even some on the boat.... however they'd need to be cut up before they could be burnt... also, does anyone have a reasonably current depth/hazard map of the section between the landing and the sandbar? I'll be loaded pretty heavy hauling the lumber and I wouldn't want to hit anything....
