Coach1310
Hello all. A guy I work with is having some problems with a pair of coyotes chasing and spooking his horses. He has had similar problems with a fox too. Is it legal to shoot them? Do you need a small game license or some kind of tag? Is there a season? I am an avid deer hunter and fisherman, but this is a little out of my element so I figured I would ask the experts for him! Thanks
woody1975
10/20/07 - 03/15/08 Fox - Gray and Red Fox openerBlaze away at the coyotes - They are an un-protected animal. As long as you are a resident you do not need a license (I'm not sure about non-residents)DL
picksbigwagon
Woody is right, coyotes are a non-regulated species, which means shoot on sight. Residents do not need a license, your deer rifle would be perfect on these coyotes. Just make sure of what is behind your target.

Jameson
Can a person hunt coyotes with a rifle state wide? Does the shogun/rifle line used in deer hunting come into effect?
carpshooterdeluxe
you can use a rifle generally state wide, other than within local jurisdictions or municipalitys banning firearms discharge. there is no shotgun/rifle boundary for predators/varmits/uncontrolled animals otherwise. roosterslayer
I know that some cities or townships require a permit to discharge a firearm. I ran into this last year and after applying for the permit which was free i recieved the permit from the deputy the next day and the permit lasts a year.
