Trailer Tires

Maybe I'm off my rocker here, but I just spent $145 for a new spare trailer tire. Included the tire, rim and labor. Does that sound right or did I way overpay? Just seems like a kick in the shorts to me. mad.gif

It's definitely not cheap or a bargain, but I wouldn't say you've got ripped or....violated grin.gif

Price is a little on the high side but anymore you pay high prices for anything. I had my wife's car tire with a flat fixed at TiresPlus and it cost $ 20.00 shocked.gif All they did was putting a patch on it....

valv, I work for a tires plus in new ulm did you buy the tires from them? if you did did you get the tire prrotraction plan? if you did that should be no cost to you, if you dont ask them if you could put it on we get 5 $ a tire so 20 bucks for all four your covered for flats, road hazards.

Keep in mind that trailer rims and tires are not the same as what you have on your car. The weight rating of each is much higher for it's size compared to it's passenger counterpart. Of course because of that they are going to stick you for it but what you paid isn't that far out of line.

I would say that is about what they run for a tire the size you need for your trailer and boat combination. The rim was probably 40-50 and then a good trailer tire will be in the 50-60 price range.

My opinion was that it is a bit spendy. It's been a little frustrating this week since we've put $720 in tires on my wife's vehicle and now another $145 for a spare boat tire.

$865 in one week on tires. mad.gif I think we could have gotten by cheaper than that. frown.gif

That is the same size tires my trailer has, and I have been looking around for some tires also, it was a few dollars higher then what I have been seeing, but the ones I have been looking at have been pre mounted so no labor. I have been seeing about $135-140 average for a good radial tire. I need 6 of them so I have been shopping, 2 different trailers, needs them!

I bought 2 Goodyear Marathon tires last year I think the size is 185 13's cost around $65-$70 each.

Boat dealers do mark up there prices to make money, however they do not sell large quantities so their cost is not cheap.

Boat tires are nothing compared to the $850+ I paid for 4 tires on my truck a couple months ago.

I hear ya there... (4) new P285 BFG All-Terrains on the ole Sierra set me back a pretty penny yesterday as well. Ouch! The flip side is, I had 105,500 miles on the All-Terrains that were on my truck so you definitely get your money out of them.

He is the thing though from my perspective. You don't need a $145 tire to sit on a rim that's never going to be used. Buy the good ones for your trailer and have a lesser tire to serve as your spare. If you ever use a spare, you just need it to get you by a short while to get that tire replaced. You need good tires to handle the load for everyday use. I'm not interested in having $145 sitting there NEVER to be used though when I would think you could do it for much less if you went with a used tire or a lower quality tire and also just a plain black rim... There's a tank or two of gas to save for fishing!
