Recommended Posts

I got 20 for large 10 med and 5 for small, that was in the round, and green skun. They give you the same for either or where i go i skin them for freezer space, i have got 5 this spring, but there is to much ice, next week is when i plan on running the river with the canoe, so hope i get a few. They should start to go nuts soon just need the rain to go away.

What kind of a set did you get them in?

The big one was in a 330 (on his head still - the setters were 200 yards away at my wheeler (I won't forget those again!) and the 40 pounder was in a waterset snare. The sets were about 20 feet apart. Haven't caught anything the past two nights - water was frozen today when I checked them. What happened to spring!

What do you guys do with the beaver carcasses? I've heard of people eating beaver tail, but it doesn't sound common (or pleasant, for that matter). Does anybody bone them out for use as bear bait?

I'm keeping mine for bear bait for the fall. Not sure I'd like to eat beaver tail either. I have heard that the beaver meat isn't too bad though! Havne't tried it yet, but maybe on the next one I will BBQ him up.

It isn't bad at all! It has been quite awhile since I have had it, as I haven't trapped for over 10 years now. I like the beaver meat better then venison.

I've had it roasted and I've had it in a stew and man, it was good! My squimish older sister couldn't resist the aroma of the stew and asked for a "Tiny little spoon full!"

She wound up eating about as much as I did!

It's a pretty lean meat for the most part, but you have to make sure that you get any of the fatty, surface junk off of it.

No big deal, you wouldn't want to cook a piece of venison without trimming off the tallow and stuff, same with the beaver, no tallow, but a little fat here and there.

I tried it once when I was a kid. We trapped a small beaver and a book on beaver trapping I had at the time had recipes. It was pretty good

Taken from the state regs:

The following materials may not be used as baits for bear.

a) A carcass from a mammal containing more than 25 percent of the intact carcass.

B) Meat from mammals that contains bones.

c) Bones of mammals.

d) Solid waste containing bottles, cans, plastic, paper, or metal.

e) Materials that are not readily biodegradable.

f) Any part of a swine, except cured pork.

I've talked to quite a few guys, and read on this forum that de-boned beaver meat is the best bait you can use here in MN. Key words - "de-boned", problem solved.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
