Team Otter
Berkley Vanish, Fireline, Power Pro, Gamma.
pfluemis
I've heard/read quite a few horror stories about Vanish, Power pro and Fireline seem to be the "in" braids. P-line Flourocarbon is a good Flouro, the old standard Trilene XT is still a great mono for fishing in the junk/cover. I still like my Spiderwire stealth braid, I'm going to be trying their tracer yellow this year.
fishin58
I second the spider wire I have used the mono triple xxx for the last couple years and I could not be happier with it. I am looking to try their new product called g-string. Endorsed by gerald swindle. I looked at fleet in fargo last night but they did not have it. fisherdog19
What type of fishing will you be using it for would be a better question. Deep water jigging or pulling spinner rigs, you may want a superline, trolling/casting cranks, slip bobbering or live bait rigging, you may want mono or something similar. Power Pro or fireline are superlines, Trilene XL or Sensation are good monos. Sufix is a new brand I have tried and like, I will try it for open water. youngie22
For me, in open water I run Maxima for my mono (4-6#), Seaguar for flouro (4-8#), and fire line trolling (8-10#) for low stretch and good abrasion resistance. Right now I don't think I would switch anything up, all seem to work great for their purpose. Shouldn't need anything else for some walleye. IKOLA
I spooled up with Vanish last year and will never again. I do alot of slip bobber and live bait fishing, this line was refered to me buy the guy at the bait shop for this. I've never missed more fish in my life, it ruined my spring. The stuff sinks like no line I ever fished, let you line sit for a minute and its down in the rocks something feirce and forget about a slip bobber. I used whats left of the spools for leaders and it worked great. Everybody should post there favorite line, and any new stuff there tryin this year! flagsup
ive been trilene for alot of years but p-line hands down stuff in the gray&black box good for seeing your line for pitching plus flouro excellent abraision&tensile strength.once i tried it never went with anything else.little more money but well worth it.trolling- like the fire line good for feeling vibrations and you can rip mthe weeds off usually instead of reeling in.lots of diff applications depends on the way you like to fish, but p-line for mono hands down. n8ivefl
Personally I use Fireline Crystal or PowerPro with a Vanish leader. That combo works great for me...
markkstanley
Have been using Suffix for a year. Like it a lot. Still prefer P-Line for clear mono but have switched to Suffix in the hi vis colors. Giving Gamma mono a trial this summer. Fireline crystal has been great and is going to be replacing Power Pro for me in the lighter tests. I am curious about the new braids out from Rapala but that will have to wait.
Fish Head
I have been using 6# P-line floroclear the last few years. Last year I was given a free spool of 6# Gamma to try and I really liked it. The Gamma is so thin and flexible, yet seems very abrasion resistant. I think I'm going to go with more Gamma this year.
waxworm
anyone use a braid leader (ex. fireline crystal) with mono for slip bobbering? I used fireline leaders in canada a few years back for this purpose and i like them because they handle teeth alot better... went through about 4 leaders a day simply because they got frayed up real bad, but thats better than getting snapped off IMO. The Grebe
IKOLA...Great! Before I read these posts, I went out and bought a spool of 6# test vanish to respool some reels...ain't gonna do that now after reading your post! But, rather then take it back, the line might have some pluses going for it if it sinks that fast....might be good line to put on the ice fishing reels? Get ya down there quicker with less weight.
