Well, how was your season? I know there is still some good days left, but what about the rest of the ice seaon this year? How did ya do?

I got to fish on Lake of the Woods with Fisky, went to a couple of FM Get Togethers, a p.b. gill at just a fin over 10". I also got to fish an area contest where my son won $500.00 with the biggest fish of the day. A 1/3 pound perch. crazy.gif And, only caught two black cats with white stripes all year. I went ice fishin a lot too! blush.gif

I didn't get out as much as I wanted to. I could go ice fishing every day and not get out as much as I wanted to.

HOWEVER

What a cool season. Along with my older brother I won one of Matt Johnsons panfish tournies on a lake I've never fished before. I got to fish Winnie for the first time in my life, then go back a couple weeks later with the whole family and do it again. I fished Slabfest and stayed the weekend with a totally fun bunch of guys in a really cool cabin. The local fishing was a hoot with all the "Ususal suspects" on some of my favorite lakes. The only downside was I really wanted to hit the Zumbro zinger and I didn't make it.

All in all I say the season was a success.

Mine was good Dan! Much better than I ever could have imagined. smile.gif

What was different this year from last year is I consistently got into fish, and nice fish, darn near everywhere I went fishing every weekend of the winter. I didn't get into too many trophy fish (other than URL crappies) but the average size of most fish was pretty good. You could say I didn't have a bad weekend fishing at all since mid-December.

Here was last weekend on Upper Red. smile.gif There's another pig for the wall in my left hand.

I ended up tucking (3) 14 3/4" - 15" URL crappies in the freezer for a visit to the taxidermist. I've been on a mission for 2 years to find a few "honest" 15 inchers up there and it finally happened this year. Thats 15" with the mouth shut and tail pinched. If you open the mouth and measure, those fish are over 15 3/4" long. LOL! smile.gif I had to sort through about 100 crappies over 3 weekends to find 3 over 14 3/4". They aren't 'that' common. blush.gif

Good times! I can't complain about anything and am content to move into spring and open water fishing now. The best part? I never had to travel in winter storm conditions all winter. smile.gif Makes trips less tense that way!

Overall, I had a good walleye year, but crappy panfish year. Which is odd, because prior years it was the exact opposite. Had a blast breaking in the fish-house. Fished Mille Lacs (with my son) and LOW for the first time. Caught my biggest walleye, a 29" 9#'er, but didnt get to take a good picture. Dropped it down the hole trying to get a picture taken.

Now, hopefully, I'll be able to buy a boat this year and do alot more summer fishing.

I had an exceptional season with all species except pike. Bluegills continue to be very good with today's outing catching around 40, keeping 12 8-9 inchers and releasing 10+ over 9 inches and the rest smaller. Walleye fishing was great with lots of quality fish, 100+ over 17 inches with the largest ice eye measuring 26 inches. Only downside to the ice season was, I can't think of one. Oh yeah, missing out on COOL CATS!!! Truly anothter enjoyable chapter of ice fishing. I'll take the ice to the end, looks like 2-4 weeks left. I'll start my open water on the river first of April, give or take. For those still out, good luck! Brent

Pretty decent year so far.. grin.gif

In reality, for big fishes, especially walleyes this year has been superb..

But its not over yet.. Am looking at putting a few 40" pike through the ice and some big steelhead...

Do you guys know the song "We are the Road Crew" by Motorhead? That was pretty much the story of my ice season which started Nov. 27th. I fished almost every single day up until 2 weeks ago.

I have been almost everywhere- LOW, URL, Winnie, Vermilion, Ontario, Bemidji, and everywhere close to home. Fished every species I could and did real well on Walleyes, Crappies, Rainbows, Splake, Brookies, Lakers-crushed 'em all. A 22 Lb. Lake Trout was my biggest fish so far this season with one last weekend of fishing coming up.

Can't wait till November!!!!!!!!!!!! cool.gif

I too, had a great season, and accomplished many firsts!!! Didn't have to just bucket fish as I bought a great new portable flip over Frabill. Went to LOTW for the first time and had a hoot. Caught the biggest perch ever in my life, who would have thought it would be in SW Minnesota on a puiny little lake I had never heard of 20 miles from my house. And last but not least I fished a total of 9 new bodies of ice this year... love to expand the portfolio!!!! Can't wait till next year when the mission is to make my first FM get together and finally take up one of the many invitations to fish URL with buddies from around here!

Each year I tell myself I want to get out more than the year before. For the most part it normally happens, but this year wasn't the case. The early part of the year made the ice a little tricker to get out. Then for the last several weeks either busy or snowstorms crushed my plans mad.gif I've got next year to look forward too!

However the times I did get out this year, they were productive and good fun with my good buds on the ice. Probably the best time I had on the ice at Mille Lac's this year. The number of fish my group pulled out on that day trip was amazing!

Looking forward to the spring now.

    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
