Is the Eagles Greates hits album still the #1 selling album of all time?

Nope, that would be Michael Jacksons Thriller

Nope, in the USA The Eagles Greatest Hits album is- type in The Eagles on wikipedia, it will tell you the same. Thriller is the greatest selling album of new material of all time.

True Dat Geno,

You can't just pull out the "most albumns sold" theory because the Ford Escort had the most cars sold tag back in the day and I would not put that piece of carp in the "classic" catagory. I think anything that is still being played after 30, 40 or 50 years in large numbers has to earn some respect and should be put in the classic catagory, so save the "over rated" for some of the new bands, until they prove themselves in 2050!

There are very few bands/groups/rappers/singers from today's era that will not be in the "one hit wonder" category and even fewer that will be "classic". Hardly any of them ever make more than one or two "albums".

Rap Carp - now THAT'S overrated!

PS I owned both a stick '83 and an automatic '88 Escort...great commuter cars! When I moved to a Taurus in '97, the increase in comfort made me feel like a rich b*&^$#d.

Windy, I’m guessing that you were a WCKG listener back when it was the best classic rock station in the mid west… good to see you and Gene representing Chicago Land.

I agree that it’s staying power that makes the difference and while it will never get a fair shake in this neighborhood; hip hop is here to stay. I guarantee that thirty years from now people will still be listening to the more prevalent rappers from today.

I stand by my Nirvana choice; not only was their work as a band insignificant but the genre of music they put on the map died within ten years… overrated.

Are the Beatles overrated; absolutely not. Are they one of the most influential bands in music history; yes they are. Would rock and roll be any different had the Beatles never existed; maybe, but I don’t think so. The Beatles exploded when the market (music fans, not music producers) was ready to hear something new. Had the Beatles not been around it would have been some other British invasion band or some teenagers from Ohio banging drums in their parent’s garage. I’m not taking anything away from the “Fab Four”, their brilliance and influence cannot be denied but I think that their success was a product of the times not the other way around (my opinion is somewhat biased; I’m an Elvis guy).

My vote for most overrated goes to Nirvana .

"Before Elvis, there was nothing"--John Lennon

Navarna gets my vote too. Green Day is a close second

Frankly Cobain was just a junkie.

nirvana

U2

kid rock

and no way garth brooks is over rated. one of the best country bands ever

anyone remeber this band

Cant agree with you on Kid Rock. A white rapper who changes his music, learns to play instruments and totally re-invents himself.

Garth Brooks is all about the show, I would probably enjoy him more if he wrote his own stuff. At least U2 writes their own stuff.

Digital,

CKG used to be OK but I was more of a Loop fan myself, of course Lorelei the Loop girl helped win over the fans as did the huge dancing guy on the commercials, hi larious.

I would agree by throwing Nirvana under the bus as the most over rated. Never did much for me and then he offs himself. Game over.
