Resorts in Minnesota?

Hey everyone, my name is Shawn and I am from South Dakota. Me and some buddies are trying to plan a fishing trip to a lake in Minnesota that offers good fishing from shore since we don't have a boat. We are looking for a lake where we can catch walleyes and panfish from the shore line. Anyone have any good suggestions on where to go. We are from Sioux Falls which is in the southeastern part of SD. We would like to limt our traveling to 400 miles or less. We are hoping to plan a trip sometime in May. Any help would greatly be appreciated. Thanks a lot. Shawn

I would suggest Mille lacs and take a few launches. Or there are plenty of lodges that will rent out small boats for a week.

I know this may be a bit further than you would like but thought I'd throw it out there anyway.

Every year my brother makes a trip to Hoodoo Point Campground on Lake Vermillion. The walleye fishing can be good in early spring beginning about Memorial Day weekend right from shore on the point. In fact, I have tried it on many occasion from a boat and it seems the shore fisherpeople quite often outfish the boaters. Don't know why but I suspect it has something to do with the line angle.

It might be worth checking out.

you may want to stay on 90 and fish the mississippi. there are lots of places to fish from shore for anything that swims. if you do this, you may want to look into a trout stamp. there are streams all over and they are a blast. i caught my best walleye from shore in the winona area. come to think of it, i caught my best northern from shore there too. all my saugers were caught from that part of the river and my only flathead. if ya go with the mighty miss, check the pools4-11 forum, they would be a bigger help than i. you may even get one of them to take ya out.

I would also suggest a mille lacs launch. Good fun and they usually can put you on fish.

Launches don't cost that much(usually around $20 per person)and there is plenty of motels around mille lacs for cheaper lodging options.

Most resorts will rent you a boat for a reasonable price. google minnesota resorts, you'll probably find the MN tourism site.

Shawn, Fishing Minnesota has a ton of resorts advertising with them. Check out the sponcors page or just seach for resorts on the home page under resorts/lodges.

Bayview Lodge on Lake Vermilion. You should be able to catch some real nice eyes from 5-8pm at night from opener until mid June. You will can catch other stuff from the dock or shore the rest of the time.

They have cabins and hotel like accommodations. They have a nice restaurant and bar w/ some decent night life and are only 5 minutes from Fortune Bay Casino -so play some Texas Holdem and pay for your trip.

We had a cabin 1/2 mile down the shore. We would go out and get some fish all day, but the best fishing in the spring was usually off the dock at night.

Hey sparcebag, we are looking to rent some type of cabin for a four night stay. We are hoping to not spend more than $450 for the four nights of lodging. So far, we have four guys going on the trip. I also want to say thanks to everyone for there input, I really appreciate it.

Try Northbreeze resort,on diamond lake,Kandiyohi County Mn.You'd be better off if you rented a tent and stayed at the county camp grounds,Cheeper but Northbreeze does give a boat with rental. Lots of shore fishing oppertunities in the area on many lakes.If this would be your choice,Let me know when you'd be comming.Post on the Willmar-Spicer Forum,I live 1 block from resort.
