I've got a Food Saver, not sure of the model because it doesn't get used.

It works fine as long as what ever I'm sealing has no moister what so ever. I can't ever seal a hunk of cheese with mine.

Yes I did all the suggests like a paper towel inside the bag, freeze the item first, clean the sealing area, yada, yada, yada.

Called their customer support and they had me seal a spoon.

It worked fine for that but forget about fish, cheese and meat.

IMO get one that cuts the bag off the roll so the bags have a straight cut, wish I would have, And as surface tension said mine doesnt get used very often and is a pain unless you use paper towels or freeze the food solid before sealing.

Good Luck

I have a black and Decker model and has worked well for me over the years. No problem packing chunk cheese with it but shredded cheese gets compacted into a mound. I do my fish and meat with it. I precut my bags with a paper cutter so I do get that straight bag, important to get a good seal on the bottom of the bag. I get a lot of use of mine as I use it to seal wet paint rollers and brushes. I have a stain brush that has been sealed for over a year and half, still wet. ( don't ask me why )

A little hint when doing fish fillets or meat, I put them in zip-lock bags first, squeeze out as much air as possible, put closed end toward bottom of your bag and then vacumn pack. It pulls all the air out, no liquid and actually pulls the air out of zip-lock just before it seals. Very very seldom does it not get a good seal because of the liquid.

Wallabee, I have had a Foodsaver model V1090 for about a year now. I use it a lot and it has been excellent. It came with a bag cutter which is a nice option. It also has the options of sealing other Foodsaver containers which may be purchased separately. It has worked very well with these also.

I am a single guy and freeze a lot of things for later use.

I previously had 2 or 3 other less expensive models and they are now in some landfill.

These appliances are not cheap, but if you use them enough they are well worth the cost in preserving food.

I have had some crappie in the freezer for about a year now and it is still looking good.

I wouldn't be without mine.

Give you a tip if you want to buy a food saver and don't mind it being refurbished cause it will save you some $$$$.

I had an older food saver when their first came out. The heating eliment went out. Called them to see if it was a replacable part. Customer server told me that it was not but they should offer you a good deal on a referbished one. Look on their web site for the models they currently have now cuase that is what they will send you.

I think I got my VAC800 with 2 rolls for under $120. That was almost 2 years ago now. So they may have different models now. If I also remember right the bags were about $5 cheaper through them then in the store.

I have a Food Saver compact 2 had this for about five years. I love it I pacage frozen leftovers for fishing trips. Simply freeze the leftovers then pack in the bags. reheating is easy by boiling the bag. Sealing fresh food can be a problem if there is too much moisture. If I dry my fish well before trying to seal everything works fine. I have had better luck with the premade bags rather than making bags from the rolls.

I did that very same thing, froze food and brought it along on a camping trip. Throw the bag in the water and Vawalla!

Not, the seal came apart and I ended up with boiled dinner.

I think the heating elements aren't getting hot enough on mine. Still haven't found it yet either.
