HOF#13
Let's open this one up for debate....In the wake of the "cheating" and suspension scandals of Speedweeks. Let me throw this out to you.....DO YOU BELIEVE THAT A DRIVER IS AWARE HIS TEAM IS "CHEATING" OR DO YOU BELIEVE THEY ARE KEPT IN THE DARK??? I'll start by saying I think Mikey knew what his team was up to. I am not so sure about Kenseth, Kahne, Riggs, and Sadler, but believe they had some type of idea. I am sure Gordon did not know as it appears that was an installation mistake.
harvey lee
AS close as the driver, crew chief and the team works together, I would have to believe that the driver knows whats up.
PierBridge
Quote: . I am sure Gordon did not know as it appears that was an installation mistake. Quote: I simply find it odd, that in today's NASCAR where every bolt, nut, and wire is checked, they had no clue that someone had bolted on a shock wrong???? I know people are human and make mistakes, but..... Which position are you taking here? I think it depends on the team if the driver is hands on in the attempt to gain a racing advantage. Uncle Bill
Not necessarly. They each have their own job and it's not essential that the driver know that every nut, bolt, washer (and drilled holes) have been cleared with NASCAR.
Black_Bay
I think it all depends if the driver is hands on or if they're a hired gun who just drives the car. Maybe it's just the hype this year, but there seems to be more cheating this year. I think Nascar is slowly moving towards spec cars(car of tomorrow), crate engines, basically an IROC type of series. Harmonica Bear
Somebody said it. In Nascar there is only cheaters and losers. I think the drivers know, but they don't want to know. With today's racing engineering (except for Ryan Newman and some others), I think the advancement in the places where rules are bent (aka cheating). are beyond the scope of many driver's comprehension. Kind of like, I ain’t saying, I'm just saying.
HOF#13
Pier, I'm taking the position that while I find it very odd that a shock was mounted wrong on Gordon's car, I will give them the benefit of the doubt that they were not blatantly cheating. And, I am saying I do not think Gordon knew about it either way. Obviously he didn't if it was an installation error. Does that answer your question? I am trying to stay on the fence on this one... eyepatrol
I don't think the drivers always know what's up. They don't have the time to sit there and watch a car get built from scratch....to watch every nut and bolt, every minute adjustment, etc etc. They have sponsors committments and other committments to be at, and are not in the garage, under the hood, under the car for every waking minute like the rest of the crew would be.
