Do you Tell the truth???

ZOOM

Recommended Posts

My go to partners always get the truth, I know they will share thier information with me so no harm done. Plus I know they don't go out and tell everyone at work, church, carwash, gas station ect. To the second tier of "friends" they might get a lake and depth but not a longitude and latitude. I don't ever lie, just leave out some details.

In order to lie, I would have to have useful information....

I'll tell you just about any details I can remember (or bothered to notice). Usually that's run down of what's NOT working because the guy I talked to on the way out lied to me about where they were biting. Oh well, a "bad" day on the ice/water is better than a good day just about anywhere else.

To my friends or people I might like I tell the 100% truth, I see it as we are working together to find the fish.

To some leech just trying to get info off me or someone that I don't like it's a whole different ball game. Lengthy funny story:

Anyone who has walleye fished Winnie in the spring knows that guys pulling up 4 feet from your boat is common place, especially if they see you catch one. Last year my friend and I (AcesInTheHole) had been on a spot that looked good on the map so we tried it for a while. Not catching anything we decide to leave, then we see the boat of guys slowly driving through swiveling their heads checking out every boat. I said to my friend "play along" I stood up grabed the net, swung it over my head, dipped it in the water and started yelling about "a big one!". My friend also stood up and started cranking in his line. The boat instantly turned and drove right up to us, killed the motor and started fishing. We slowly trolled away with the electic chuckling about it. We still laugh about that one.

LOL... I do a similar thing... My friend inherited her grandfather's lake lot on a resevoir of the Crow Wing River... Everyone out there is always snaking after someone who's on the hot bite...

I once caught a 22 inch Walleye off this drop off hump just off the end of their dock as I was trolling in for some early dinner...

We hooted and celebrated a little as it was a pretty epic battle... Fish had a lot of fight in him...

We dang near couldn't make it out at Prime time because there was 7 boats in front of the dock...

So we finally got out, barely avoiding having to trade some paint with one boat... I fired up the main motor and shot upstream to this weedline that we'd been having pike bite off problems earlier in the day.

I dropped off two old stained white shirts I keep on board in case I get wet... Filled them with some big bobbers... And hooked them to some old jjigs on our lines...

Went up stream 20 yard further with the bales open... Trolled back to the white shirts... Hooted and hollared as we spent 5 minutes netting the two white shirts...

The "Herd" made their way up to that spot in the course of the next half hour, and we got a lot of open space to troll through for prime time!

I think we all agree it depends on the situation. Part of what I enjoy most about fishing, not catching, is the social aspect. The banter at the landing or on the ice. It's usually a feeling out process, start slow, then work in to whats biting or whats not. For the most part I'd say there's a code that you may tell what you got, and what worked but like others have posted, you don't just give out GPS coordinates. The other day on Bald Eagle it was nice to chew the fat with a guy who's been out a lot more than me this season, but then I ran into someone who was a meat head and didn't tell them a thing.

If nothing else some great aquatiances have been made on and off the lakes, it really depeneds where you are. It's way different on a city lake, versus URL, (in 15 ft of water always is a classic) or weekend trips on Winnie, Gunflint, M'lacs, URL, LOW etc. cool.gif
