JohnMickish
Hot off the press from one of the few people that would really know the truth about this. You guys and I can banter all we want but we really don't know much about these people, but I have to believe that Teresa knows what she is talking about here.Teresa Earnhardt questioning Earnhardt Jr.'s commitment?: Dale Earnhardt Inc. team owner Teresa Earnhardt appears to be questioning stepson #8-Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s commitment to racing in an interview with the Wall Street Journal. The story in Thursday's edition [subscription only] says Earnhardt Jr.'s contract with the team founded by his father expires after the 2007 season, but Teresa Earnhardt expressed uncertainty about his future. "Right now the ball's in his court to decided on whether he wants to be a NASCAR driver or whether he wants to be a public personality." Earnhardt Jr. "was not available for comment" on the statement, the story said.(SceneDaily.com)(12-15-2006)
harvey lee
Sounds like a statment to get the attention of the press and get more ink. It will also get the attention of others and get them starting to talk about racing as Daytona is getting near. I personally do not believe that Teresa even gets along with JR. or ever has. Maybe she could hire Waltrip back and see how far they go. Sounds to me like the press is trying to sell newspaper. What a better way than to start rumblings and create doubt. If she didnt renew Jr contract she would be the laughing stock of Nascar.
VMS
She might have a real point in there too, though.. Look at all the commercials Jr. has done, his show, "back in the day", etc. When you spread yourself a little thin, it is hard to be really competitive. I could see this being an issue and she's pushing the buttons to get him to think. He learned a lesson not too long ago that the team can only do so much for him... (all those crew chief changes). Slowly but surely he is coming around and figuring some things out...this is just one more of those things on the list.Steve
harvey lee
I do agree that he needs to get a few of his ducks in a row. Not if, but when it does happen he will really be a contender. I do believe it will happen. Seems he has also been somewhat of a party animal.
JohnMickish
I think his biggest problem right now is his age. Isn't he around 34 or so? Let's be honest here, with the current state of competition out there the chances of winning a championship after the age of 40 don't look so good. We all know that no matter how much experience you have the reflexes and stamina of a man in his 40's are nowhere near what they are when he was 25. Now with this COT junk thats comming I think they are trying to make every race like a plate race. One great big pack running around three wide, with everyone waiting for the big one. If it does turn out that way how many years of racing can a guy do before his brain melts? That's pretty stressfull racing.
harvey lee
I agree that things in Nascar are going to change with the COT. Some racers I do believe will rise to the top, just maybe not as often. Some teams always seem to figure the new stuff out just a little bet better. The bigger teams will still dominate. Uncle Bill
Quote:Now with this COT junk thats commingHa !!, Right on !!Add to that, Toyota junk, and former F1 drivers, you just may have recipe for mediocrity.
HOF#13
Hey fella's,Long time no talk. I wouldn't doubt this rumor at all. It is no real secret that Dale Jr. is not real fond of Theresa and that their relationship now is strictly buisness. I am also guessing that enough time has passed since Dale Sr.'s death, that Jr. feels he has completed his DEI "family" obligations as far as he and his father are concerned. In the past, Jr. and his sister (his sister Kelley works for him) have taken their time with his contact to make sure it is what's best for him. I think the fact that Jr. will not just sign it since they are all "family" aggravates Theresa to no end. This may have just been Theresa's way to get a jab in at him. I think Jr. would really like to drive for Childress and RCR at some point, and think that before he signs his new contact with DEI he will explore his options. Quite frankly, if DEI loses Jr. they are in big trouble. Theresa needs to do whatever is necessary to keep him in the #8 Bud car.I think Jr. has grown up quite a bit over the last few years, and whether he drives for DEI, RCR, or someone else in the future, he will have a champioship or two under his belt before he's done. harvey lee
Just like the drivers teams, you have to get away with what you can or catch me if you can. I think they say, its not cheating until you get caught.

harvey lee
I dont know about that Jeff. I did learn a few things last year that will without a doubt help me in playing the game this next year. But to win it again will be a very tall order. I know for sure that I will give it all I have. HOF#13
Thanks Sifty...good to be back. The thought of getting to "debate" with Lawdog over Little E and Gordon was just to much too keep me away! Hey Lawdog...I see Gordon is going to be a daddy. Any bets that if it's a boy he names him Ralph Dale Earnhardt Gordon? I like the sound of it.
harvey lee
Why not as that might make him the greatest ever right Jeff.
lawdog
I'm just hoping he won't be stupid enough to name him Jeff Jr. I mean that's not fair. When your dad is one of the best ever and you are stuck with his name and aren't really anywhere near in the same league as him, that's got to be an awful embarassment for you!!! That's a lot of pressure to put on a kid. Maybe Dale Jr. can explain that to him so he avoids that mistake!!!
harvey lee
You are right Jeff. Just think if the King would have named Kyle Jr. How would you have filled those shoes?
lawdog
Too true Harv...that would have been a disaster for Kyle. I was just thinking the advice would be better from Little E since he wouldn't be speaking hypothetically!!
