Buck Craze!!!!!!

People need to relax!

Why is it so important to shoot a buck?

I have a cabin up in pine county.

when the DNR started to go with giving out

"anterless tags"

and the bonus tags!

Geesh they encourage shooting does and fawns!

To curb the population!

hunters are not doing their part!

Hunters from what i witness!

Will sit and wait for a buck!!

Last year I witness sitting along the highway!

a hunter sitting behind a few bales of hay with a herd of deer does and fawns!!!

While standing there, a CO pulls up!

Checks me out, then we started to talk, he told me

this is a common sight!

Now this is where i get irked!

Hunting is about harvesting an animal!

Killing it , cleaning it!

And most of all!

Enjoying the meat!

But nooooo, I gotta have a buck!!!

I bet a few or even more , I could be wrong!

Don't think the meat is an important factor!

Horns, yummy!

Grow up, lets work togather!

Don't get me wrong

I have hunted 3A for many years, shot bucks!

I love to shoot a buck if one walks by

I will shoot it!

I like does and fawns better!

Happy holidays

To each his own. It is everyones choice to harvest what they choose. Not everyone is a meat hunter not everyone is a trophy hunter either. I have no problem shooting a doe but I would prefer a decent buck. But then we all have your opinions on how to manage game don't we. I still think MN should adopt a lottery system like ND or SD. It forces you to decide what you will shoot before you go in the field.

It's the challenge of the trophy hunting. I love eating venison and I shoot does. I have shot 2 this year and will take another one given the opportunity, but I want a big buck. I will not take a small buck, nubbin buck, or even a ok buck. I want a big buck. Now everyones opinion of a big buck is different and it should be. I love to hunt with all three methods and do it as much as I can. I try not to shoot fawns and haven't, but I will take does till the cows come home, but dawg gone it I want a big buck...really bad. If that's a buck craze then I got one heck of a case of it.

I'm with nova, I hunt 3B, which used to be called the management or doe season. I haven't gotten a nice buck yet, I've been at it for almost 15 years. Still waiting on Mr. Big, never pulled the trigger on one and only sent arrows at 3 with no luck. I buy 4 licenses are year and one of them is reserved for a nice buck, if I get it, I get it, if I don't, I don't. I eat a lot of venison, and I don't actively go after does during archery, but during 3B, I shoot any flat top at least a year old. I'll admit to it proudly, I'm buck Crazed, I'll hold out for a big one. Fins, Maybe that guy already has a couple of deer in the freezer. I don't blame him a bit for being selective after that.

I will take this one on too. Lighten up and YOU relax. cool.gif

I only shoot bucks. Typically pass on a few does each year - this year did not see any does. If I am busy cleaning and dragging a doe - I am not hunting that buck.

I DO NOT have any negative opinion on those who choose to shoot does and fawns. Nor do I have a negative opinion on those that shoot many anterless deer in one season - as long as they eat or share the meat.

My freezer is full of pheasants, grouse, wild turkey, woodcock, ducks and geese. Venison is nice, but it typically takes about 1 - 2 years to eat my vacuum sealed venison sausage and steaks. If I don't shoot a deer - we do not go hungry.

I only shoot bucks as well. I dont shoot little bucks, I wait for my definition of a big one. If I dont get one, I am ok with that. I get one about every other year. I dont need venison in the freezer, I have plenty of pheasants. Also, I end up with more venison than I need from our hunting party. In our area, we have a good population of deer, but it is not overrun with deer. I really enjoy watching the does and fawns and little bucks play around my stand. I am very lucky in that I pass up sometimes up to 10 bucks a year and twice that many does. If you like to shoot does and fawns, great! No problem from me. But please, don't tell me how I should hunt.

My diet consists mostly of wild game and fish, so I will shoot a doe or two for the table depending how the season goes. I am also a buck hunter and pass on numerous smaller bucks each year waiting for the big one.

Am I antler crazy? For the big ones, you bet! So that being said, each to their own

Fins, why dont you please relax!!!!! and tell me why you have to shoot all the helpless cute mommas.

That may be how some hunters feel too.

I too am buck crazy for the big guys, but I also harvest does.

We may not like what some hunters do, but we must repect it.

For the sport of hunting and fishing we must defend oneanother against the antis.

My two pennies.

I hunt with a group that sort of does look down on harvesting anterless deer. I'm not so sure I agree with their philosophy 100%. However fins, you talk about seeing lots of deer and getting your heart pumping. Where do you think lots of deer come from? Unless I missed something in biology class, bucks are unable to give birth. That being said, there is, or at least has been, an overpopulation of whitetails and I personally have nothing against someone for killing anterless deer as long as the meat goes to good use. We have a difficult time finishing up one deer in a year, needless 2 or 3, so I really have no problem letting deer walk until I get a shot at a nice buck. One more thing, from some of the small does and fawns I've seen, most bucks, even 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 year olds, have a significantly greater amount of meat on them. Good luck to all with the late season hunts.

I also hunt 3b and buy 2 tags right away. I used my bonus on a little doe, and the other on a big 8. I just like to be able to use the bonus to make sure I get some meat, and save my buck tag for a big boy. This way I cover all my bases.

I don't hunt for the meat!!

yeah I love venison, but that's not why I hunt. I enjoy watching a doe and two fawns play under my stand as much as shooting a doe. Where I hunt the deer numbers are very low!! I would rather leave the does and fawns!! I've passed up two 6 point bucks that I could have spit on this year. Why shoot them? I bow hunt for the challenge of out smarting a mature buck!! It's a challenge! I love it! So yeah I'll admit I'm a trophy chaser!

Just like ice fishing. I'll keep very few fish. Anything from 2-10lbs get put back.

I don't shoot does. I grew up only being able to shoot bucks in the belief that there will be more deer. The landowner told us the only way we could hunt his land was if we didn't shoot does and I guess it just kinda stuck. There are many people around us that harvest does and fawns. I go deer hunting for the challenge of tagging a buck. What's the problem with that fins????

If you hunt in an area that you see a lot of deer, then you can be more picky. We hunt by upper Red and we have folks in our party that go 2-3 years between seeing deer. So, they are not as picky when a deer walks by. We have others in are party that let doe go by, they have shot a lot of deer in their lifetime and like the challenge of waiting for that special day that the big boy walks out. So, I see both sides. I enjoy just being out in the woods being able to hunt with family and friends. You can't beat the great outdoors!

I like to make a point, here I have an issue with the

hunter who soley hunts for horns!

Also I seen and heard of people hunting for

Mr. Big!

No problem with that!

Where the problem lies people say "I am a trophy hunter, not a meat hunter!"

All deer hunters are meat hunters!

Like to hear your thoughts!

Happy holidays!

Sure we're all meat hunters because if you waste the meat its wanton waste, so you have to butcher it and use it. For some, they want the antlers and the meat is a by product. Some want the meat, and if it has antlers, its a bonus. I know a guy that just likes to bowhunt, but doesn't like venison. He has a friend that does like venison, so if he gets one, he gives it to him. Hes not a horn hunter either, he'll shoot anything that comes along, he just likes getting out hunting. To each his own, as long as the meat isn't wasted.
