I just tried out a Nils auger I got this year and boy does it cut. I have used many different auger and for the past 4 years have been very, very happy with the auger I now have.

There is only one thing you can say about this Nils auger and that is WOW. cool.gifcool.gifcool.gifcool.gif

Its the lightest auger I have ever carried, its starts very easy and cuts like nothing I have ever seen before. smile.gif

I would always get very tired cutting 10-15 holes with my other auger, but I will say that the crappies are in trouble now as I can cut a endless amount of holes to fish.

I also got a new Nils 8" auger this year. laugh.gif

As stated, this auger really rips thru the ice fast and easily! shocked.gif

Everyone that has fished with me had to try it out and all of them were truly impressed.

Can't wait to really put it to the test on deep ice panfishing!

Ya with the little ice we have now I barely hit the gas and Im through. It makes 8" of ice seem like 1". 1st time I used the powerhead this year I was scared because I thought I had walked onto some thin ice. Measured the ice and it was 7-8".

I cant say I miss my old 3 horse 10" yellow jobby.

I also got a Nils last year and love it. So does everybody I fish with. But remember to run a tank or two before you hit the ice. My auger gets faster every time I use it, but it needs to get broke in before. Willsdad, it is worth the money and you will be happy.

I takes about a week from when they ship it. I got mine on Wed after the order was "finally" frown.gif placed last friday . I wished I would have ordered from here rather than at the Ice show. I'd expect the holidays to slow shipment to more like 1 week to 10 days. Looking forward to breaking it in this weekend. grin.gif

What took you so long to try one wink.gif They are simply incredible augers. The only other auger that cust just about as fast is the Strikemaster Lazer Mag Xpress but it weighs about 6 pounds more than the nilsmaster. Nilsmaster sells a shorter American version and their regular European version and if you're "vertically challenged" get the shorter one. Just be very careful with that cutting head and don't push down on it, bang it or drop it on the ice ooo.gif The other thing is don't let a rookie use your nilsmaster because someone who is inexperienced can damage the cutting head in a hurry by dragging it or pushing down on it. I have an 8" and a 6" bit that can be quickly interchanged and for early ice you can drop the Tanaka head and just use them as a hand auger which is what I usually do when there's less than 5" or 6" of ice and I'm on foot.

    • As a recovering machinist, I can appreciate that.  If the spec is 0.001 - 0.0015, then clearly the correct measurement is 0.00125, duh…
    • I just figured that it is easy enough to just get a 3 bank so when the boat is not in use I can keep all 3 batteries charged. I have not bough a charger yet, maybe I will give it some more thought. Edit: After thinking this over, with the size, weight, and heat output of the charger (as well as the cost) I think it makes sense to just buy a 2 bank charger, I have a smaller charger i can use on the starting battery when the boat is sitting at home. Forgive me, for i am a retired engineer and I have to obsess over everything...
    • Congrats on the motor!  I think you’ll like it.   I can’t say much on the charger location but I’ve seen them under the lid in back compartments and under center rod lockers.  160 degrees is more than I expected to hear.   Curious why you’re opting for a 3 bank charger with a 24V trolling motor.  Unless you don’t feel you be running you big motor enough to keep that battery up as well?
    • I did buy an Minnkota Ulterra, thanks for the recommendations. I had a bunch of Cabela"s bucks saved up, which helped. Now i need to get an onboard battery charger. Where do you guys mount these things in your boat? The manufacturer I am looking at {Noco genius) says tht their 3-bank charger will run at 160 degrees, seems like a lot of heat in an enclosed compartment? Thanks for any input on this.
    • You're very lucky a troop of Sea Monkey's didn't carry you away.
    • Wasn't terrible at a state park beach. Antelope island maybe.  I wouldn't recommend it as a beach destination tho.  Figured I was there, I'm getting in it.
    • The water looked and smelled disgusting with hundreds of thousands of birds sh*tting in there.  About as gross as the Salton Sea. When I duck hunted there I didn't even want to touch the water.
    • It's kinda gross with the algae in the summer but I got in it anyway.  Wanted to see the increased bouyancy at work.  You can kinda tuck yourself into a ball and you'll just float with your head above water.  When dry off you look diamond encrusted with the salt.
    • We went to the flats too. I dipped a tire on the rental car onto it just to say I’ve been there, but it was still pretty soft from winter melt. After seeing some moron in a BMW suv get dragged out of the muck I had no intention of repeating his stupidity.
    • I've been out on the flats. It's like being on a different planet
