The "guy up in brainerd" actually works for Marcum, that is where I sent my unit to get upgraded last month - that is also where their repair center is.

Mine had a stuck zoom button on it, so I sent it in for repair since I was sending it in anyway, I got it upgraded as well. They upgraded the unit for $49.00 and fixed the issue for free, even though it was no longer under warranty.

Great company, great service, great product...

If this is 'Jon' who works for Marcum out of his place up on Thesing Road outside of Brainerd, his picture is next to the dictionary entry for 'customer service.' A bunch of us in Perham sent ours in for the TC upgrade in November '05 when the program was first announced and had them back in a couple of days. I emailed him about a transducer problem I read about on FM at the same time and he had a replacement at my door the next day. Never asked me about any warranty proof, etc etc.

This is the kind of thing that sells you on a company. Not only a great product, but the people who want to see you enjoying it! Oh, chime in if you must about only needing customer service for products that break. All I know is how much fun it was tonight watching the dial light up with those Christmas colors!

I agree with the customer service at marcum.I recently bought a lx-5 from HSOList but the charger was missing,i bought it anyway.I stoped by the marcum booth at the ice show and told them i was looking for a charger for the unit.He just reached behind his table and handed me one. They have a customer for life.

I e-mailed Marcum [email protected] requesting the upgrade.

This was part of their return message:

"Here is the information you need for the LX-3 to LX3TC upgrade program. All repairs and upgrades must be shipped to the Brainerd repair facility. Upgrades typically return to the customers in about a week or less."

The e-mail went on to give me the upgrade return # and also the address in Brainerd and info about shipping... etc.

The number a the bottum of the e-mail from Marcum customer service was 763-493-3748. Perhaps this is the number you've already called.

Hope this helps you get the upgrade and they are not out of parts frown.gif .. the upgrade is well worth the 49 bucks!

Is the upgrade really worth the 50 bucks though? I guess what differce does it make that the colors are differt? I look at my screen and see Green the way it is, maybe im just a bit off after all those propane fumes because everyone else that looks at it thinks im nuts and they see yellow. All the TC upgrade does is change the colors right?

On a side note there customer service is unreal. I didn't have a charger in my box when I bought it new and they sent me a new one within 3 days as well as helped me out with a question on the zoom.

Yes, the update is worth it. Yes, it changes the colors. But, it is doing with three LED lights instead of two. What that does for you is make the target seperation better and the colors easier to see. The target "image" is sharper.

I just got the email back from Marcum confirming they are discontinuing the upgrade service - they have a few spare boards and that's it. You can be put on the list for possible future upgrades if they get more boards - to do so, they have to get their supplier to make more which they may do if there is enough demand. GRRRRR!!!!

I got the same reply. You can be put on a list or check back in Feb. I seem to be having problems with my transducer. Does anybody remember what the problem was about a year and half ago with the transducers? My colors seem to go flakey after about an hour on the ice and I have to turn the gain way up. I know it isn't the battery because I have two and one is brand new and I get the same thing.

I just want to confirm that the service center has about 200 upgrades left and once there gone I doubt they will be back. Were all upgraded in my area except for 3 original first you units. If your on the fence get off it quick! We have been fortunate to have it available for quite along time... Good luck guys...

Good, Now how do I get a hold of the service center. I thought they were the ones who replied to me. See below.

Mike,

We recently suspended the LX-3 to LX-3TC program as we have consumed all the remaining upgrade boards for this program. We will keep a small reserve of boards for repairs and may have some boards left at the end of the season. You are welcome to start checking back in early February as to the availability of the TC upgrade at that time. Also please feel free to email us and request to be put on a mailing list for the upgrades. If we get enough names on this list, our ownership may consider doing another production run.

Do you have a problem with how your LX-3 is working? If so please let me know and I will issue a return number so we can get the unit repaired for you.

Ok guys here's the deal, first I apologize as all I did was relay the information I was given. Customer Service is correct the upgrade deal is now discontinued. The remaining boards will be used for repair only. If I get any more information on this I will pass it along...

That's for sure Crestliner-fever I told my buddies that didn't get the upgrade that this gravy train wasn't going to run forever. Cudo's echoed for MarCum doing it this long.

LX-5's sales are through the roof this year just incredible.. You can also check out hsolist for guys selling the LX-3's with upgrades as more venture up to the LX-5 there should be good deals to be had. I know quite a few guys that will enjoy there shiny new MarCum Christmas presents this year if we ever get some ice...

I don't want to hijack this important thread - everyone with an LX-3 should get the tc upgrade, period. But, regarding your transducer, I was told that the symptoms you're seeing (not seeing jig, needing to turn gain way up, etc) are almost always the result of a bad transducer and you can check yours with a simple test: Press your fingernail into the base of the transducer (the flat bottom). If you don't see an obvious mark with even a fairly light press, it's likely a bad one. The good ones have a sort of soft, rubbery, matte finish surface and the bad ones have a hard, shiny, patent leather look and feel to their surface. I told Jon at Marcum that mine had failed the fingernail test and he sent me a replacement the next day. Hope this helps.

    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
