I bought a used XL-3000 eight or nine years ago (it was one year old) and ran Strikemaster oil in it with fine success for years. Three years ago I switched to Amsoil, and I noticed right away there was less smoke and the motor seemed to run smoother. Since then, I've switched to Amsoil in my oil-inject sled and outboard boat motor, as well as my lawnmower. I'm not in the business of pushing business toward Amsoil, but that's been my experience.

Is this a sufficient oil to run in a Lazer Mag Xpress, or is there something far better to use?

To answer your original question, Yes, its alright to run the Strikemaster oil. Although there are definitley better options as others have pointed out.

With the Strikemaster oil, you'll have smoke and a black gooey residue that leaks out of the exhaust on your auger. If you use your Strikemaster in an ice house, it'll actually spit this black goo on the walls of your shack. Amsoil won't do this.

Is your auger new? If so, I would recommend running a tank of gas or two of regular mixed gas through the engine to break it in properly. Then switch the Amsoil or Stens. The Amsoil and Stens products are both great products, but will not allow the rings to seat properly if used from new. I tell all my customers the samething and it works great.

If your auger has a few seasons on it, go ahead and switch it over. You will have run a tank of gas through it to burn out all the oil that has built up. After that you will probably notice that the auger is running a bit faster, smoother, a little more power, and a lot cleaner. You may need the high speed screw opened up a half turn or so, otherwise you may be running it too lean. If there is no adjustment screw, don't worry about it.

I was told from a friend to let the auger run for 45 minutes sitting over a 5 gallon pail with the auger drill removed, with the fuel mixed double of what was recommended (strikemaster oil). I did that and I since gave that auger to my brother and bought another one, it is still running great. I did the same thing with this one. I do not know if using the more oil helps the rings, or what? I was told that running it for that period of time really seats the rings. I have not had any problems with the new auger, I do not know if it is good practice or what.

I forgot to add that I now run Amsoil saber professional at 100:1, going on my second year. No smoke and no spatter

Wish I would have read this post earlier. Just bought my first bottle of strikemaster oil 2 days ago. There is black dump everywhere from that stuff but the auger runs good. I will definitely be looking in to amsoil or something else.
