at target yesterday in st. cloud we were looking in the dollar section by the carts and they had strings of led xmas lights in white or colored for $2.50 leach string has 20 leds and is powered by 3 AA batteries (included) They are much brighter than i expected. 2 strands should easily light up my 8x16 enough to see my way around. each string is about 4' long i would say.

got 3 sets today, was really surprised at how bright they are. Now i just have to figure out a way to hook them up to a vex battery instead of putting AA in them all the time. It says on the box not to use rechargeable batteries, anyone know why this is?

i tried 2 strands in my 8x16 and 2 easily lights up the whole house enough to see everything. i think 4 or 5 stands and that could almost be my main lighting. i might try and run some strands together and stuff and see if i can come up with something that runs off 12v. if you beat me to it keep us posted 2 strands in series would be 9v?? 3 be 13 1/2? not sure if it works like that or not

thanks

2 strands in a series could be 9v, or it could be 3v, it depends on how the wiring is inside, as the batteries themselves might not be in a series, so it depends if it is drawing 1.5v from all of them or 4.5 in a series. (but thats just my basic knowledge of electricity, i could be way off base)

also, has anyone just left theirs on to see how long they last with just the AA batteries?

ok mustang, gave it a try last night, and the lights worked great for aboot 5 seconds before one of the wires melted. So if you have a lot of time on your hands, some 18 guage wire, and a soldering iron you could strip all the LEDs off and make your own strip, but the wires inside these strands just wont hold up to the power off of the vex battery. Although when i did connect all three strings they would still run off of 3 AAs, just not as bright, so maybe if you hooked them up to a 9 volt battery the wires might not melt on you?

p.s. Corey i tried it your way with some 18 guage wire hooked up to just one LED light (not the whole strand) and it made a really cool popping noise, but stunk really bad after that

Get some shrink wrap tubing and solder your splices ,,3 wired in series should work off a 12 volt battery ( when fully charged it will be about 13.5 volts) I wonder if a 6 volt lantern battery would work for this too good luck with this guys!!!

If you want to run 4 of them in your house then it would be easy. 1 wire from battery to 1st light, then wire from other prong on first light to second light, then from second to third, then third to fourth and then from fourth back to the battery. With the 4 in series like that you will drop 3 volts across each set.

i just bought 2 strings, mine have on/off switches on the back of the battery box, anybody have any ideas on how to attach these accross the canvas ? im thinking velcro tape wouldn't stick to well to the canvas, any ideas?

yea I guess some things are too good to be true, I picked up 2 packs of them from crossroads and one of them had a bad wire in it or something so only half of it lit up unless i held it just right. tried taping it but it just wouldn't work. went back to the store today via scheels and saw they had led rope light on sale for 8 bucks and went that route instead. (didn't mean to change the subject, just thought i'd tell my experience)

Tried these last night and was more than satisfied with the amount of light they put out. It is not super bright, but more than enough light for my Yukon and my headlamp did the trick for the specific focused lighting that I needed.

Another inexpensive LED light that I found is at Menards and I believe is called My light. It is a small globe with a nice heavy duty clip and puts out a focused beam in white or red. $2.98 was the cost. Clip opens to 1 1/2" so can attach where ever it is needed such as portable poles(X2 poles might be a stretch smile.gif.

Will have to see how they hold up throughout the winter, but maiden voyage was very satisfied.

    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
