Wisconsin Opener / Hunt

I haven't heard yet, but then again I don't watch the news or read the paper crazy.gif I would assume it was a good opening weekend with the near perfect weather and abundant tags. Lots of deer at the local processor as of Sun evening.

Well, according to the numbers I'm reading atm, the sat/sun total was at 167,573. 6k more than last year. Also states that there was about 9k fewer antlered deer killed, but more importantly, more than 16k anterless deer. Well, the DNR will be happy. So, I guess it's been a pretty successful season here in the cheese state.

All I can say is I love hunting in Wisconsin. Here's how our opening weekend turned out. Tom 6, Gary 2. We had another in our group who got 3, but he had to leave early on Sunday morning, and took his deer before we had a chance to take photos on Monday afternoon. Hopefully this weekend we'll get our bucks! Only one buck was shot between our 11 deer, but we were set on taking multiple does for management purposes. Both Gary and I saw Large bucks on multiple occasions, but at distances that would have been foolishly shot at in such thick heavy woods. Maybe one of the big boys will get close enough this weekend. Hope everyone else had a good time in Wisconsin. Lots of hunting sesaon still left with Muzzleloader seasons in both states coming, and what will be left of the archery season here. Lots of Jerky and sausage to be made smile.gif

We hunted in NW Wisconsin and we went 4 for 4 on Saturday. Two bucks (Big 11 pointer & fork) and two does. We had more tags to fill but decided to call it quits with the 4 deer. We had a 1.6 mile drag of the deer off of land that doesn't allow motorized vehicles. Needless to say we were pretty tired when we were done. We exited the woods after 8:00 pm. On Saturday we saw close to sicty deer but only three were bucks.

There are a ton of deer in Wisconsin.

One spot is south of Eleva off County Y, west of the Chimney Rock public area. My buddy owns 40 acres in the valley there.

The other spot we hunt, although not this year, is about 5 miles NW of Mondovi. My buddy's uncle has a farm there, mostly cow pasture but there are some nice patches of woods and a really nice wooded ridge.

I had a buddy that lived just north of Eleva, off Severson Road, until about a year ago when he moved back to the Twin Cities.

Small world - Severson, the dead end across from Tolefsons. I'm just a bit further north, just north of the scenic overlook. Cool stuff. Not much shooting that direction when I've been out this year.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
