How can that show as a tie score when one guy has them all in the right order and the other has the third place guy winning???

You get points for the place your guys are in. The tie breaker is having them in the right order.

Johnson is worth 10 points for first place

Kenseth is worth 9 points for second place

Harvick is worth 8 points for third place

Therefore they are tied but the tie breaker goes to
