I was in Wisc over the weekend doing a little bow hunting but mainly setting up some stands for upcoming Shotgun season. My Father in-law owns 14 abandon farm houses in the Washington County area and the majority of the land is still farmed. I went back to this on part of the farm where I usually see some really nice bucks, and low and behold there was a monster just standing on this oak ridge. It was a BIG 10 with mass and height. I watched it with my binocs for a couple of minutes then I decided to run and grab my video camera. It was about a 5 minute drive back to the main farm where my equipment was. I was gone no more than 15 minutes and I didn’t see the buck thinking it just walked away. I drove through a tote road and I saw something from the corner of my eye and right away I knew it was a dead deer. I walked up to it I heard a truck exiting the road on the other side. There it was dead with the head cut off. This honestly happened in a time frame of 20 minutes. I called the CO and gave them the description of the truck and all I know it was a later model white Ford. It looks like the head was cut off with a chain saw. The CO's said they are going to contact all of the taxidermist in the area. I bet that deer went 250lbs... Disheartening knowing that buck had to be poached. Oh yeah it looks like it was shot with a rifle also.

Wow, that is so sad to hear! Truly sorry to hear that story. I hope to heck they catch who did it....that is just aweful.

Years and years ago (before cell phones, etc) I was riding with my grandpa and dad early in the morning, about 10 minutes after shooting time, headed to the hunting spot when we came across a bow hunter standing alongside the road smoking a cig with a real nice 10-pointer laying there. We stopped to talk to him about it and he said he shot it right at shooting time. Funny thing was....the darn deer had frost all over it! Including the inside of the legs where you gut the deer out! That was talk!

A couple years later, we hunted this one cornfield right at the end of the day. For whatever reason my uncles wanted to go back to that cornfield the next morning so we did. Low and behold there were two carcasses of deer laying there at the end of the cornfield. Meat all trimmed off, hides laying there with holes in them. Obviously poached over night.

I cant really say that this a poacher story but I just got off the phone with a friend of mine that hunts Sherburne wildlife refuge and he said that the sheriff told him and his hunting party that 19 people were arrested for walking thru the no hunting zone in full camo no blase orange and they apparently had no guns and they were attemting to drive deer to 5 guys in the hunting zone . I hope that the law finally will do something about this and hopefully make an example of them. so that others will think about what they do .

Walking the dog a few nights ago around 8pm and as we get out toward the main road I see a car come driving much slower that the posted 55mph speed limit. As they get to the freshly cut corn fields out pop 3 spot lights and the country side gets all lit up. They were scanning those fields pretty hard too. Funny thing is there are occupied houses and farms all around the area. I guess they could have been looking for their lost dog.
