bunk bed cushions

I know the discussion has be brought up before (I have read every post related to this) but where did you guys get your mattresses, cushions, bunk bed mats from - I just built four bunks and have to get cushions on them before the big deer opener. FMers previously threw out a lot of stores / places ect. To get them, but are you happy - are they holding up - did you find sheets to fit them, ect Right now I am leaning on getting them at fishhousesupply in Buffalo – just don’t want to drop the $ 360 and wish I got something else.

thanks

I saw 4" foam sheets in the camping section of Sportsmans Warehouse this past weekend. I think they were about $40 - $50 for 4 x 8 pieces. You might be able to make something up with those for cheaper. Good Luck. Think cold.

I stopped in on a local mattress manufacturer and took a pile of their cutoffs for free. I used spray adhesive to attach them to 1/4 ply cut to fit the bunk, then wrapped them with upholstry fabric from the clearance bin at JoAnn Fabrics and stapled it to the plywood. They're not fancy, but they're comfortable and the cost was minimal (less than $50). My brother in law used old couch cushions and did the same thing.

What's up GPC, dont know if this will help but my uncle just took some foam and had my grandma sew some cammo fabric as the sheets. Dont know where he got the foam though. They have been in use for 4 years and still look new.

I had mine custom made because I wanted longer ones than the standard 72" you see at most places, I got 75". Since they're so narrow (24"), I didnt want to be crowded. My camper has 27"x75" and I think those are ideal. I also had custom covers made from a material called Twill that wears great kind of like a demin but its softer to the touch. Then I just throw a sleeping bag on top. Mattress were high density Linux 4" foam and the same price as Fishhouse Supply; covers extra.

I recently helped a friend make new seats in his pontoon. We used foam from Rochford Supplies in Minneapolis. the foam is $29.98 for a 4" X 24" X 72" peice of foam. You could use a variety of material to cover it with. Just use a spray addhesive and glue the foam to a sheet of plywood. Whip out your staple gun and staple the fabric on the otherside of the plywood. Before you know it you will have a great bed a fraction of the price. If you want to go all out they even have memory foam!!...

Good luck and I hope this helps

Brian:

Looks like a great supply outlet and excellent prices as well on foam and marine carpet I noticed.

Should help out anyone looking to do up some DIY bunks or benches. Staple gun and some adhesive is all you need. And maybe a quick course (101)from the wife on how to tuck/fold the corners smile.gif

I stapled some 3" foam cushions over some 4' stools so when you want to stretch out and look over the holes easy there is a cheap option. Garage sale freebies I quick painted for $3.

I ended up getting the mattresses from fishhousesupply - The owner was very nice and the mattresses look really nice - I did call sunset and the price was going to very comparable but time was an issue as I needed them for deer hunting this weekend - thanks for all the advise

    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
    • Chef boyardee pizza from the box!
