According to the BASS database, Al fished the Classic 3 times (1974, 1975, 1977).

Hopefully we can add a couple more Minnesota names to the list for the 2007 Classic. Good luck to everyone fishing the Weekend Series National Championship and to Jim Severson at the Federation National Championship.

I think its two-fold:

1. Because of our stupid season, many guys do not fish enough pre-spawn to get really good at it and being a short season we miss out on some of the traditional patterns. I.E. down south fish slowly transition through the spawn over 4-8 weeks, it happens almost over a week or two here. All the changes are much quicker.

2. Its tougher to make the transition up here. Its hard to fish the AAA leagues like the Opens and the Strens, most of the circuits never come with in a few hours of here, so it takes a huge comittiment just to make that leap, if you really want to do it, you should just move south wink.gif

I myself dont know a ton about it either, as I fish very few resivoirs. I know on T.V. they talk a ton about how much water they are letting through a dam and such.

They also have to deal with different water levels. They often talk about a 3 day tournament and water leves being up and down 3-5 feet a day? We dont have to deal with a 3 foot change in water depth in a year!

I would be totally lost fishing the lakes they do.

Rick, My apologies, I should've researched more thoroughly. You definitely deserve recognition for that accomplishment. And yes, Lindner did fish it three times in the late 70's. However, it still would be nice to see more Minnesotans go to the big dance.

As far as fishing resivors go i fish quite a bit on Lake zumbro which is North of rochester 20 minutes. It is a resivor with some fluctuating conditions. It has humbled me many times and i would encourage all of you to fish it once. Also if you want some current experience the mississippi river offers great opportunity for such things. There a few times when the current is just right that you know exactly where they will be on the breaks making it a blast. That is my limits for resivor info. i will start a new post so that this gets more attention. ike

Jason, don't worry about it, I was just yanking your chain. Plus, it's been over 10 years, so it doesn't really count anymore.

I agree, we have too many good anglers in this state to not have more making it to the Classic. Again, hopefully that will change this year.

I really don't think minnesota has any excuse for not having more fishermen that fish the triple A or tour level events. Guys out west have to travel a lot to fish major tournaments. I fished with guy from california last week and he told me how long it's gonna take him to drive to fish the flw western series. The driving won't be much different than a guy from MN fishing the stren central division next year. I think it's a case of the guys that have the courage and gusto to make a go at it don't have the money and time to do it. And the guys that have the money and the time don't have the courage to fish a lake other than minnetonka or gull. Just my 2 cents.
