Corn Stands

Recommended Posts

I have read in a few posts on this forum of a corn stand. I understand the concept is being able to hunt standing corn fields, which would be awesome. How high are they? Do the deer ever pick you out? How do you guys make them? It sounds like an great way to hunt so any advice would be great.

We own the land we hunt on and plant corn feilds strictly for deer, now if you can clear a small area being you own the land or have permission to do so I would recommend it because it does work very well. The opening in the middle of the field gives the deer a sense of security and gives you a good shot when they get there.

I have heard of several guys doing this. All of them asked for permission to do it first and also offered to compensate the farmer in a variety of ways - i.e. working for him, buying him something, or giving him a lot of deer meat. Keep in mind you are taking away part of his livelihood in many instances. It's the same as saying, can I slice a little bit of your paycheck off for someone with an office job. They're going to expect something in return. And hunting for free on their land is a totally different story as they're not losing anything per se unless you destroy part of their land.

we've built small platforms right on the irrigators in fields we have permission to hunt; owners dont mind as long as were not drilling anything into waterlines. ive found that the deer love to use the tire path of the irrigator as a trail, especially where it intersects with the access road to the pivot. the setup works best when the irrigator is parked near said access road...giving a guy good viewing up and down the trail.

If you need a drawing sketch i made 1 up for a new model.I have made some improvments to help carry it easier. This way you can haul everything in 1 trip if you want to hunt it the same time frame. Also have some pics as well that are not posted in forum. Some with us hunting and a few taken apart step by step so you can see what you all need

Can anyone tell me what kind of weather will keep the deer out of the corn? rain, wind, etc. I am hunting some public land that butts up to a corn field and a bean field. Sometimes the deer enter the beans via the corn field and sometimes they enter from the woods. I think when they come from the corn, that they where probably bedded down in the corn. If I knew what kind of weather would keep them out of the corn, I would hunt the public land just on those days.
