Best BBQ Sauce?

Recommended Posts

Gonna grill some good stuff to perfection this weekend. I like Fisher Dave....Uh, I mean Famous Dave's the best. The Devil Spit is my favorite but the family dosn't like it so spicey so I use alot of the original.

Bring on the coals!

Boy! That sounds good! Thanks for the invite but I'll be sticking close to home this weekend. I do want to catch a few off that dock again sometime.

I'm gonna fire up some beef ribs over the coals and deep fry some shrimp tomorrow night...might even mow some grass...The dog is starting to get lost out back.

Take Care!

Famous Dave's original has been my favorite for a few years now. I might have to try a few others soon though. I've been using a lot of the various Lowry's marinades too. Vern

Interesting...
My favorite is both Ken Davis and Famous Daves Rich and Sassy. But we mix equal portions toghether.I like the flavor of FD's but it gets a little too much so Ken Davis kind of mellows it out a little.

I found a sauce called Sweet Baby Ray's out of Chicago. Comes in hickory, hot and spicey or original. You can get it at Menards in the BBQ section or at Rainbow. Good grillin and good fishing!!!!!

My favorite for chicken has to be FD's Zesty! For beef and pork, Cookies and FD's Sassy.

One hint for those who really love BBQ'd food, try using one of the dry rubs that are out. You can put this on before you cook without worry of burning, it gets the flavor deeper into the meat, and then near the end slap on your favorite sauce. MMMMMMMMM!

I would have to second that vote for sweet baby rays, I know the chef who came up with that recipe, his food is top notch. Although I find none of the bottled sauces are quite spicy enough for me, I like a thick, bold and tangy flavor, that is why I usually make my own.

Kitchen sink BBQ sauce...

1 cup ketchup
2 TBSP minced garlic
1 TBSP black pepper
1-3 TBSP hot sauce (like tobasco)
1/2 cup brown sugar
1-2 TBSP molasses
1/2 TSP cayanne pepper
1-3 TBSP lemon juice or vinegar (add slowly and stop when sauce reaches desired thickness.

This is just a basic recipe, I make it a little different each time I make it. sometimes add chopped jalapeno or habenero for a really firey sauce. Sweet onions are good, yellow or dijon mustard, soy sauce and/or chili paste, etc. A shot or two of your favorite bourbon will add a nice touch too.

Famous D is pretty good, and has a lot of
flavors, but the best BBQ you can buy in
a store is made right here in Minnesota!!
It is available at Byerlys stores. The
name is SVEN'S BBQ sauce. Very thick and
man is it good!!! I also second the call
of using the dry rubs and then coating
with BBQ sauce. And if you never tried
using apple chips/chunks in your gas grill
you don't know what you are missing!!!!

Sweet baby ray's is good, but I've found nothing better than Robinson's #1 sauce. He's got a few shacks in the Chicago area and it is well worth the trip.

The best sauce I tasted was on a street corner in Toledo Ohio about 4 or 5 years ago after the big blues/rib-fest. We were walking back to our hotel (something I wouldn't advise doing in Toledo(rough neiborhood)) and there was this huge beast of a man who called himself "Fat Man". We were stuffed from all the ribs we ate that day but he insisted we try his sauce so he gave us each a big piece of BBQ chicken with his "Fat Man's BBQ sauce" and it was by far the best sauce of the day. We bought one bottle but now I wish we would've stocked up or got his business card or something. Oh well, you know what they say, you can wish in one hand and s#!t in the other.......

Im a BBQ and smoking fanatic... hands down...

WOODY'S GRILLING SAUCE

Its low sugar content makes it a great sauce to put on as it cooks and not burn...

I always add something like brown sugar, molases or the like, but its an awsome sauce... also its a CONCENTRATE to use it wisely

Walleye_gfa, where do you get the 'Woodys Grilling Sauce'. Always willing to try somemthing new and good. What did you mean by its low sugar content/doesn't burn but then you say you add brown sugar? Wouldn't that make it burn?

You cant get it here... look up "Woody's Cook-in Sauce" there are several online places to get it...

Its a BBQ concentrate, extremely flavorful... It DOES need some sugar, for the table I add some white or brown, mix in and serve... for the grill I add JUST A PINCH, just enough to get some good carmelazation, but not enough to burn like some high sugar commercial sauces...

Man this is good stuff, its what true BBQ was meant to be....

Hey if anyone want to get to gether for some smokin, Ive got a big smoker that will do 3-4 racks ribs, 2 chickens, and some other meats at same time... let me know and we will ahve a smoking / football party !!!

    • Truly sorry to hear that duffman! I know that feeling.  Keep the good memories
    • Chamois passed away this weekend a couple days short of her 13th bday. What a great dog to hang out with here at home and on distant adventures. Gonna miss ya big time my little big girl.
    • Sounds pretty sweet, alright. I will check them out, thanks.
    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
    • We have bought a new boat, which we will be picking up this spring. It is an Alumacraft Competitor 165 sport with a 90 horse Yamaha motor. I will be buying and installing a trolling motor,  wondering if I can get some recommendations on what pound thrust I will want for this boat?  Also, I will be selling my old boat, is there a good way to determine the value on an older boat ( mid-80's with a 75 horse 2-stroke  Mariner motor)  I will appreciate any help with these questions.
