match arrow to bow?

Last year I bought some new arrows. Carbon express Maxima. They were matched to my pse bow which was set at 55 lbs. I just bought a new bow (new to me) which has a weight range of 60-70 and is currently set at 65 lbs. The guide says that these arrows are not correct for this draw weight range. The arrows shot fine so what harm can I do using the lighter arrow? Don't really want to spend $100 more on arrows again.

There are a lot of issues in your question. First of all, make sure you are shooting an arrow with a total weight of 325 grains with your current bow. The rule of thumb is 5 grains per pound of bow draw..thus in your case..65 x 5= 325. If you arrows don’t weight enough...it could be like dry firing your bow...and might cause damage. Most manufacturers will not cover such damage. Also, arrows that are over or under spined might not fly correctly....or could break during your shooting cycle...giving a higher risk of injury. Just be careful.....in my opinion...it would be worth getting arrows that “match” the bow. I am by no means an archery expert...so if anyone else has an opinion or advise...lets hear it.

don't mean to steal your post but I have a question also is it ok to shoot carbon arrows thru a recuve, ben pearson 45lb. I won half dosen with broad heads and not sure if I should use them. I used to shoot easton game getters 2117

First the question then the hijacker....

After checking out the carbonexpress HSOforum it seems that your Maximas MAY work fine with your new setup as long as the length is correct. If you are shooting short arrows (27" or shorter) than you can continue to shoot your old Maxima 250's. They are slightly underspined for your new application but they will work. If you shoot an arrow longer than 27" than you should really be shooting a 350 spine arrow. They are 1 grain per inch heavier and they are stiffer to absorb to power of the bow firing it. An underspined arrow will fly inconsistantly and may be a danger for breakage.

I kow your arrows were expensive and they are really great arrows, but if they are underspined I'm sure you will find they will not work with your new bow, especially in the department of consistancy. Try selling your old arrows here to get some cash to soften the blow. I know you just bought a new bow, but you spent money on getting a good bow, you aren't gonna risk shooting the wrong arrows through it are you?

And now for the hijacker Yes you can shoot carbons through a recurve. They will do just fine as long as they are the right spine for the amount of wight you shoot. That would mean youare probably looking at shooting a 250 series arrow or the lightest "non-youth" arrows for your 45# recurve. I'm not sure where the aluminum numbers compare with the carbons, but any good pro shop will be able to tell you. You'll probably want to have your new arrows cut to size anyway so head in to have it looked at.

I would agree with cliffy and Powerstroke and probably buy new arrows.Why take a chance on damaging the bow or hurting yourself.Sell the other arrows and purchase some new ones.If you dont want to spend alot you could maybe just buy a half dozen for now.

Thanks for the advice. I knew the answer just had to hear it from others. I will save the arrows for my PSE.
