I won't spoil any surprises but another GIANT was caught tonight. You'll never guess who witnessed it? grin.gif

Let's just say it was caught by a "seasoned" catman who deserved every minute of the great battle with this fish. You know when a seasoned guy catches one that makes him giddy it's gotta be big cool.gif

Stay tuned........pics and video to follow and also a special bonus surprise about this sumo shocked.gif

Good Morning! And I do mean GOOD! Its been three years since I got a fish over 40. Now I got my biggest Mudeye (So Far) The scale read 49-50 topping my other fish at 47-48 by a pound or two. Caught it on a 6-7 inch freshly caught sucker on the edge of some swifter current. I haven't wet a line in the river for three weeks till last night...nice welcome home I'd say. My wife said its because I shaved grin.gif

Thanks Dtro for your help!

This fish was tagged and I'll get the history behind it on Monday if I can. I'm sure it would have been the fisheries guys from Hutch that did the tagging study....can't wait to get that info!

I don't know what it is this year, but good things seem to happen when people go fishing with me wink.gif

Dark also caught a mid twenties earlier so I would say he had a decent night tongue.gif

Well it paid off I guess

I'll be fishing from shore tonight at the Le Sueur landing area if anyone wants to stop by. Maybe I'll get another lick in? My wife asked me the age old fisherman's wife question this morning.."Was it better than sex?" All I could think about was the Miller Lite commercial about answering quickly and very smooothly. "It depends on the sex" was all I could come up with. It didn't help when I continued..."You look great in that outfit". I need to watch that commercial again blush.gif

I tried to get another one sat night but only came up with an eight pound channel smile.gif

I did contact the DNR this morning with the tag number. It was tagged in June of 1999 between Franklin and Morton at river mile 217. It weighed 37.5 pounds and measured a little over 44". Looks like it gained about 12.5 lbs and 3" in 7 years. Hopefully this fish will continue to survive and maybe show up in the record books again sometime!

That is way too cool Dark. I can't believe how little it grew in 7 years. Just furthers my belief how we need to protect these big fish.

That thing went a LONG way! I don't know how far that is, but it's got to be close to 100 miles by river.

Good Stuff

    • Yeah it was a beatdown
    • Your kid needs to stay with him!👍
    • My kid was eating in Beverly Hills and ran into this guy. Talked to him a bit and wished him luck in the game tonight.
    • 🤔as a recovering machinist!🤣🤣that must make me a recovering welder!
    • As a recovering machinist, I can appreciate that.  If the spec is 0.001 - 0.0015, then clearly the correct measurement is 0.00125, duh…
    • I just figured that it is easy enough to just get a 3 bank so when the boat is not in use I can keep all 3 batteries charged. I have not bough a charger yet, maybe I will give it some more thought. Edit: After thinking this over, with the size, weight, and heat output of the charger (as well as the cost) I think it makes sense to just buy a 2 bank charger, I have a smaller charger i can use on the starting battery when the boat is sitting at home. Forgive me, for i am a retired engineer and I have to obsess over everything...
    • Congrats on the motor!  I think you’ll like it.   I can’t say much on the charger location but I’ve seen them under the lid in back compartments and under center rod lockers.  160 degrees is more than I expected to hear.   Curious why you’re opting for a 3 bank charger with a 24V trolling motor.  Unless you don’t feel you be running you big motor enough to keep that battery up as well?
    • I did buy an Minnkota Ulterra, thanks for the recommendations. I had a bunch of Cabela"s bucks saved up, which helped. Now i need to get an onboard battery charger. Where do you guys mount these things in your boat? The manufacturer I am looking at {Noco genius) says tht their 3-bank charger will run at 160 degrees, seems like a lot of heat in an enclosed compartment? Thanks for any input on this.
    • You're very lucky a troop of Sea Monkey's didn't carry you away.
    • Wasn't terrible at a state park beach. Antelope island maybe.  I wouldn't recommend it as a beach destination tho.  Figured I was there, I'm getting in it.
