How do we know he has 4 effective pitches?

Those were the words straight out of TR's mouth. He was interviewed the other day on Hartman's show and I heard him say those very words about Garza.

Willy,

I'm not sure what you want people to back you up for.My response was to you stating that I took the words right out of Terry Ryans mouth.I'm sure you read my earlier post where I attributed my comments to Terry Ryan. If my effective pitches comment had come from him I would have said so.

As far as listening to the Chad Hartman show goes,I do not listen to sports talk radio that often because I find it rather boring. I enjoy the game itself, not listening to people who more often then not did'nt play the game.

You made a comment earlier that Garza only threw fastballs because that's all he needed to win in AAA.That's not how it works.Terry Ryan would rather see Garza have a 4-4 record while working on all his pitches than have him go 8-0 and using almost all fastballs. Please enjoy the game for what it is,only a game.

Floating Minnow, do you think it is possible they you guys are talking about 2 different quotes made by the same person? I am fairly certain I have heard the same the Willy did about Garza having 4 pitches that are major league quality but he relies on the fast ball to much.

I did some looking, this is one quote from a coach in AAA about Garza

Quote:

"This guy can control the strike zone. He can throw a breaking ball when he's behind in a count. He mixes in his changeups, slider, but when his game is on the line -- when it was his win or loss on the line with runners on out there -- he's able to spot that fastball at 97 miles an hour and put it where he wants it."

So people think he has 4 pitches that he can use effectively. He just doesn't mix them up which is what we have all been hearing.

I think you mis-understood me. I was saying that the words out of TR's mouth were that he had 4 pitches. Not saying you said that. Terry said that himself during an interview the other day.

As far as playing baseball, I have played my share and know how it works. That's the reason he isn't up here, because he isn't using those pitches and the Twins would like to see him mix and match a little more even if it means him giving up some hits, runs, or losing a game.

Willy,

If I misunderstood you then I have to say I'm sorry.

I still think we will not know if he has any effective pitches until he gets up with the Twins and TR never rushes pitchers in fear of them losing their confidence if things do not go well.Kyle Loshe has some good pitches but he now pitches in fear of what might happen.

No big deal.

I agree that until he uses those pitches in the major leagues, then all it is would be a scout's guess.

We will know for sure when he gets up here. Maybe they shouldn't rush him, but I think if they want to stay in this race then they have no other choice.

I'm off for a day and you guys go nuts on the Twins.. tongue.gif I've heard the guys on the radio quote people from the Twins as saying "Garza HAS four effective pitches" he just doesn't use them all enough, mainly fastballs and that will get him killed up here. There is no doubt in my mind that Garza will be called up soon enough.

Garza is in love with his fastball and uses it to get people out in AAA. He shakes off the catcher a lot and that upsets the brass.

He need to pitch like he is in the show -- that's what they want from him.

The catcher in AAA needs to pull a scene from the movie Major League and tell the batter whats coming and TATER BALL!! Remember that, I think they called him wild thing or maybe it was Bull Durham... I'm forgetful. tongue.gif

The post was meant to be about us brining guys like baker and bonser up to pitch, yet saying Garza isnt ready....when we all know full well that Garza could destroy both of these scrubs put together.

And was I the only one that read the nice little write-up about Garza in this weeks (joe mauer cover boy) Sports Illustrated?

I really don't know that much about Garza--- but if his line is what Buzz said it is--- I'd give him another few starts at AAA, and if the Twins are in a pinch for a 4th or 5th starter and still in the hunt or ahead in the WC,, bring him up. Other wise-- the Twins will be OK with the current 4 man rotation. Those days off are real nice and prevent us from using a 5th starter.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
